Ready for Weeds?

The blizzard was insane!!!  I hope everyone was able to stay warm at home all day Monday.

Now I hope you all know what will happen with all of the moisture seeping into the ground. Weeds will be popping up like crazy! For those of you that haven't done it yet, (you know who you are!) you really need to think about doing a pre-emerge.  All pre-emergents help prevent seed from germinating.  This means pre-emergents will prevent weeds (that grow from seed) from coming up. All of that being said... You have to actually get it down and watered in before the weeds germinate, SO HURRY!

For your options on pre-emergents click here and look for "What are Pre-Emergents?"

While figuring out which pre-emerge is right for you, you should also check out our Lawn Care Programs so you can get on a regmiment of feeding and preventing weeds! Just click "Lawn Care Programs 2013" under the same link.

Think about it!

Have an awesome week!

Botanical Interests
Flower Seed of the Week

By Judy Jones

Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura often known to Gardeners as Whirling Butterflies is a member or the primrose family (Onagreae). Several species of gaura are native to Texas. An inexpensive way to add them to your garden is with seeds. The plants are perennials and hardy to zone 5 but I would err on the side of caution and mulch them in late fall especially until plants are well established. When starting from seed plant a couple of weeks after the average last frost date when the soil has warmed. Gaura germinates over several weeks, keep the soil moist and be patient. Butterfly Gaura is available on the seed rack here at Panhandle Greenhouses. If you purchase any of the 'Botanical Interest' seeds be sure and read the information printed on the inside of the envelope. You will find information that will be helpful. One last note Gaura will reseed and also spread by rhizomes but I don't think you will find it invasive.
