Seed Collection

We have a great selection of packaged seed Seed Display this year and it won't be long before you can start them inside to get a jump on your plants for the garden.  It is easy to start tomatoes, peppers and herbs from seed indoors so that you have a nice plant ready when spring finally hits. We have all the trays, soil and supplies that you will need to get started.

If you don't know how to start seeds inside then you need to come to our seminar next Saturday February 23 @ 10 am on Seed Starting and a tour of the greenhouses!  If you are interested e-mail or call us and get signed up today!

Have an awesome week!

Birds of the Panhandle
By Judy Jones

Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura

Turkey Vultures are also known as turkey buzzards or simply buzzards they are found in the summer from southern Canada to the tip of South America. The Turkey Vultures of the Texas Panhandle usually leave the Amarillo area during the coldest months and return by mid March. It is interesting to note that they do winter in Lubbock and occasionally they are seen here on Christmas bird counts. Since 1918 they have been protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. These scavengers feed mostly on carrion. They have no syrinx , the vocal box of birds so they can only hiss and grunt. They glide on air thermals and are beautiful in flight with their silvery-gray flight feathers. Often you see Turkey Vulture sunning with wings outstretched this familiar pose helps dry their wings, warms their body and control bacteria.

Since March 2012 the Catheys have generously allowed me space on their weekly newsletter. This is my last article and thank you for letting me share my love of birds with each one of you. Comments, corrections and critiques are welcome at jubo1206@yahoo.com
