Thanks to everyone that came out last night!  It was a huge success and we hope y'all had as much fun as we did!

Time to start picking up the rest of your fertilizer if you are on a fertilizer program!

Message from Aaryn:

My dogs woke me up this morning at 6 am... not happy about that, but when I went to let them out I was super excited by the clouds!  It has been sprinkling all morning.  I hope we get a huge down pour again today!  We need to fill up the rain barrels again!

Yesterday I sent out an e-mail reminding everyone on the fertilizer programs to start thinking about Winterizer for their yard.  That goes for you also!  If you recently fertilized then you still have a couple of weeks, but if not then think about Winterizer for your yard.  It is crucial because it helps push your yard through the coldest time of the year with slow release fertilizers.  Also, it won't hurt to do Activate again just to give your yard that added cushion.

Another thing to mention, we still have poinsettias that haven't been sold yet.  If your church or business wants to pre-order a few give us a call so we can get them written down for you!  The poinsettias are looking fantastic this year and we don't want you to miss out!

See y'all soon!

Birds of the Panhandle

Barn Owl
Tyto alba

This large owl is found throughout most of the world. Despite the fact that it is a fairly common owl it is listed as endangered in seven Midwestern states. Its plumage is ghostly pale grey and rusty brown at times, its heart shaped face makes it easy to recognize when the owl is seem when perched. It is a valuable wildlife animal because it effective in rodent control. It's silent flight is due to its serrated flight feathers which makes it a deadly hunter. When rodents are readily available a nesting pair with young may eat as many as a 1,000 in a year. In the Old World houses and barns were build with an owl hole in the attic, in Germany the hole is called a "Eulenlock". This allows the owl to nest in the barn and as rent they control the rodents. YouTube has an interesting video of a black cat and a Barn Owl that are playmates. It is call Fum and Gebra in case you want to watch it.
