Middle School Panel Discussion
|
On April 9, St. Stephen's held a Middle School Panel Discussion for our upcoming graduates in Grade 5 and 6. Four alumni who are currently in 8th grade served on our panel: Sophia Kardonski (Gulliver Academy),Max Matiauda (Palmer Trinity), Alejandra Ruttimann (Ransom Everglades), and Cristy Urquidi (Carrollton).

Prior to the panel discussion, students in grades 5 & 6 were asked to come up with questions they had about middle school. Lauren Dowlen, Director of Development, served as moderator, and each alumni answered the questions based on his/her own school. Questions ranged from "How much homework do you have?" to "How much time do you have between classes?" At the end, the floor was opened for additional questions.
The event was well received by our students who are preparing to move on to middle school, and our alumni panel enjoyed spending some time with each other back at St. Stephen's. Many thanks to Sophia, Max, Ale, and Cristy for sharing their middle school experiences.

Alumnae Ladies Luncheon
| In January, St. Stephen's hosted a Ladies Luncheon for alumnae and their mothers, aunts and grandmothers. It was held at the Parish Center Patio and we were so pleased to see so many familiar faces. Many alumnae reminisced about the "old days" while looking through yearbooks from their days at St. Stephen's. Several faculty members came and caught up with their former students and parents of students.
We look forward to hosting another Ladies Luncheon next school year and seeing more alumnae!

Davina Aryeh ('93)
Davina is currently getting her MBA at Columbia Business School in New York. She is engaged to be married to Juan Carlos Guillermety this coming November. Davina has been working in the sports industry since graduating from Georgetown in 2003 and plans to return upon completion of her MBA. This summer she will be working with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in their international expansion efforts in Latin America.
Karim Aryeh ('92) Karim married Karinna Barzuna in 2007 in Costa Rica. Their son Adrian Aryeh was born on April 4, 2009. After spending several years in New York and Geneva, Switzerland working for UBS Wealth Management, Karim and his family moved back to Miami in 2010. Karim and his family recently visited St. Stephen's where he saw many of his former teachers. He is pictured here with his wife and son outside the St. Stephen's Library. Leana Cianfoni ('96)
Leana graduated from the University of North Florida in 2007. She is currently the Leadership Programs Manager at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. She shares, "As a native to Miami, I am glad to be working and living back in my hometown. St. Stephen's by far holds the fondest memories of my childhood and close relationships I made with my classmates and teachers. Today I still keep in contact with many of fellow classmates. I am currently living in Brickell and work downtown. There is no place like Miami, and no school like St. Stephen's!" Sabrina Cianfoni ('98)
After leaving St. Stephen's, Sabrina attended Gulliver Academy and Preparatory. She then enrolled at Penn State University as a psychology major. After a year and a half at PSU, she had a change of heart and wanted to be closer to home. She also had a change of mind about her degree and wanted to major in merchandising. Florida State University was the perfect fit. She interned at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City as a buying intern. After a little while in the fashion industry, she decided to return to Miami. Now she plans to return to school to get her Master's in Mental Health Counseling. Sabrina shared, "I love working with children and teens. As a matter of fact, I plan to specialize in these age groups once I am a mental health counselor." She is also working towards becoming a substitute teacher or teacher's assistant. Shelby Hinds ('04) Shelby is a senior at Ransom Everglades School. Many years ago, she discovered a love for baking after attending a cake decorating class. Three years ago, she put her passion to good work helping others by donating her pastries and time to Lotus House, a transition home for homeless women. This past February, she held a Valentine's Cupcake Drive which raised enough money for almost a thousand meals at Lotus House. Her endeavor was featured in the Miami Herald's Neighbors section! In the fall, Shelby will be headed to college at Dartmouth. Victor Oquendo ('99) After St Stephen's, Victor attended Ransom Everglades School. He then went off to the University of Miami's School of Communication and graduated in December of 2009. He double majored in broadcast journalism and international studies. He is currently working for WPLG TV, Miami's ABC station as their newest reporter. Watch for him on Channel 10!
