All Clark County Probate Hearings Moved to Regional Justice Center

Effective immediately, probate hearings formerly held at the Family Court will be held at the Regional Justice Center at 200 Lewis Ave. in courtroom 3F, in Las Vegas. The move brings hearings conducted by Probate Commissioner Wesley Yamashita into the same courthouse as Probate Judge Gloria Sturman and Presiding Civil Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez.

Commissioner Yamashita will hold hearings Friday mornings in 3F. Wednesday probate hearing schedules will be determined based on courtroom availability. The commissioner will temporarily retain chambers at the Family Court at 601 N. Pecos Rd., so any filings, orders, courtesy copies or ex-parte applications still need to be delivered to the commissioner at that location.

The Probate Commissioner hears an average of 120 cases a week. Probate is the first phase of a legal process to administer the property of a deceased person. Probate falls under statute titles 12 and 13 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and requires compliance with those statutes.

2015 Bank Secrecy Act Conference

The Gaming Law Section will host the second annual Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Conference on Thursday, June 18 at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This informative day-long program is sponsored by UNLV's International Gaming Institute, the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Thomson Reuters.

This year's conference begins with Jeff Setness's breakfast presentation, BSA 101, a primer on the entire conference. Those registered for the breakfast program will also gain admission to the main conference. During the day, AGA President and CEO Geoff Freeman and Stephanie Brooker from FinCen will give keynote addresses. Local and out-of-state gaming experts representing compliance and enforcement offices and casinos will participate in panel discussions covering topics such as best practices and vetting high rollers. The 2015 conference will feature several improvements, including more space for conference attendees, streamlined conference day check-in and more networking opportunities.

For more information or to register, visit the state bar's website. Register by March 20 for low early-bird rates.

A total of 25 individuals have applied for the judicial seats vacated by Judges Abbi Silver and Jerome Tao, who were both appointed to the Nevada Court of Appeals. One applicant has elected to apply for only Department 20.

Interviews will take place in the Nevada Supreme Court courtroom on the 17th Floor of the RJC, and the public is invited to attend. The interviews will be webcast on the Supreme Court website. For more information and an interview schedule, visit the Nevada Judiciary website.

Upon completion of the interview process, the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection will select three nominees for each vacant seat. The names of the finalists will be forwarded to Governor Brian Sandoval for his review and final selection.
