The goal of this seminar, presented by the Solo and Small Practice Section, is to provide a brief overview of immigration law and the critical concepts needed to better serve Nevada's large immigrant population.


Speaker Hardeep "Dee" Sull will present a look at immigration law that includes the key concepts of family immigration law and criminal immigration law, and how both intersect with state laws. He will also discuss the new Presidential Orders and their impact on immigration law and immigrants.

2015 License Fee Deadline Approaching


Member Services would like to remind members that the deadline for completing your 2015 renewal is just a few days away. Members who have not yet paid their 2015 license fees and/or submitted their 2015 annual disclosures should do so this week to avoid penalties. Late fees will be assessed at 12:01 a.m. on March 3, 2015.


All envelopes containing 2015 renewal documents must be postmarked no later than March 2, 2015. If you plan to hand deliver your license fee, payments must be received by 5 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015. The most efficient way to meet this deadline is to complete the renewal process online.


The Member Portal on our website is new, so members must create an account if visiting for the first time. Payment receipts will be sent to the member's email address currently on file with the bar. Upon completion of your disclosures, you will be able to view a PDF confirming your successful submission.

Nominees Named for Seat in Ninth Judicial District Court


The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has named three nominees to fill the open seat in the Ninth Judicial District Court, Department 2. A total of 13 attorneys submitted applications for the vacancy left when Judge Michael Gibbons was selected for the Nevada Court of Appeals. The three nominees were selected following interviews by the commission.  


The commission's three nominees for the open seat are:

  • Thomas W. Gregory
  • Douglas R. Rands
  • David F. Sarnowski

Governor Brian Sandoval has received their names and applications, and will appoint the new judge from the list. More information on the nominees is available on the Nevada Judiciary website.

Free CLE in Las Vegas: Estate Planning


The Las Vegas offices of Gordon Silver will host a CLE course entitled "Simple Estate Planning and Handling Small Estates in Nevada," on March 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.The seminar is intended for individuals interested in learning simple estate planning, including the preparation of wills and trusts. Attendees can earn 7.5 CLE credit hours, including one ethics hour.


This seminar will be free to attorneys willing to take a new pro bono case or to provide legal counseling at an upcoming Nevada Legal Services clinic. For those who wish to attend without volunteering, tuition is $150.

New Development Chief at the NJC 

The National Judicial College (NJC) has a new Director of Development and Communications. With 20 years of experience in educational advancement, Jeanne Hill started her job at the NJC on February 17.


In her new position, Hill will work to create annual development and communication operational plans and strategies. She is responsible for fundraising and managing the day-to-day activities of the Development and Communications Department.


The National Judicial College, housed on the campus of UNR, was founded in 1963. It is the nation's premiere provider of judicial education and justice improvement initiatives.
