Cross Cultural Competence for Attorneys

In a country with a multicultural nature and a general tendency toward globalization, cross-cultural representation is commonplace for many attorneys. This two-hour seminar will help lawyers better understand and communicate more effectively with individuals belonging to cultures less than familiar to the legal practitioner.

The larger goal of this class is to provide attorneys with useful tools for working with clients who are different from themselves, whether this difference is due to national origin, race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status or other aspects.

Volunteers Urgently Needed to Represent Children in Foster Care

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada needs the help of southern Nevada attorneys. Currently, more than 70 children referred by the Clark County Family Court are waiting for pro bono assistance.

Attorneys who have attended a previous training session may select an available case from the Pro Bono Project website. Those still in need of training can sign up for one of Legal Aid Center's bi-weekly New Volunteer Orientations. Upcoming orientation sessions will take place on Tuesday, September 9, from noon - 1 p.m. and on Thursday, September 25 from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. at the Legal Aid Center's office. A more complete schedule of upcoming live CLE training seminars is posted on the Pro Bono Project CLE Calendar.

All volunteers will receive free malpractice coverage, a staff attorney mentor, complimentary support luncheons, monthly brown-bag CLE seminars, access to an online pleading bank and much more. Contact the Pro Bono Project staff at probono@lacsn.org or (702) 386-1444 for more information and help a child in need today.

Several of Nevada's participating high schools are in need of attorneys to help their students prepare to face off in the courtroom during competition, including schools in Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Reno, Sparks and Elko. To learn more or to volunteer, contact Law Related Education Coordinator Kathleen Dickinson at kathleend@nvbar.org.

The Southern Nevada Mock Trial Competition takes place on February 14, 2015, and the Northern Nevada Mock Trial Competition takes place on February 20, 2015. This year's state finals will be in Reno on March 6-7.
