Register for the Family Law Conference

 

The Family Law Section invites bar members to attend the 2015 Family Law Conference. The conference, now in its 26th year, will take place March 5-6 at the Bristlecone Convention Center in Ely, Nevada.

 

Programming highlights include: an advanced track presentation on e-discovery, a dialogue on child witnesses and a presentation on tax implications in divorce.

Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility Seeks Members 

 

The Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility has one vacancy for a two-year term to begin October 1ญญญญญญญญ. The state bar's Board of Governors shall appoint an attorney member to fill the vacancy at their September 22 meeting.

 

The Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility's functions include rendering advisory opinions on the ethical considerations of the practice of law and assisting members of the state bar with understanding and adhering to ethical and professional standards of conduct.

 

Interested applicants should complete an online application form. All applications must be received no later than noon on August 15.

Free Information Session About UNR's Paralegal Studies Certificate Program

 

Paralegal training can lead to career advancement and job opportunities in a number of growing fields. To that end, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) offers a Paralegal Studies Certificate Program. The course, now in its 22nd year, will run over eight weekends between September 6 and November 16, 2014.

 

Linda A. Bowman, an attorney and former Washoe County Second Judicial District Probate Commissioner, teaches the course along with Jim Spoo, an attorney and Sparks Municipal Court Judge. Both Bowman and Spoo have extensive experience in Nevada's state and federal courts and in transactional law.

 

Prospective students can learn more about the program at the upcoming Extended Studies Community Open House, taking place August 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the UNR Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway, in south Reno. Attendees will receive discounts for on-site course registration and can enter a drawing to win a new iPad.
