Annual Women in the Law Conference

 

Join the bar for the second annual Women in the Law Conference on Tuesday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. The event offers a great opportunity to network with colleagues while developing professional skills and knowledge.

 

This Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association (NNWLA) supported program will feature local female bar members discussing relevant topics, including substance abuse and addiction, the compensation gap, employment law and business operations. Attendees can earn 3.5 CLE credits, including one AAMH credit.

Public Lawyers Section Recognizes Distinguished Attorney

 

During its recent annual meeting in South Lake Tahoe, the Public Lawyers Section presented Tracy Chase, Chief Deputy City Attorney for the City of Reno, with the 2014 James M. Bartley Distinguished Public Lawyer Award. Chase received the Bartley Award in recognition of her years of exemplary service as Chief Deputy City Attorney for the City of Reno, her dedication and innovation as legal counsel to a growing municipality and her commitment to the highest professional standards as a public lawyer.

 

Each year, a government attorney in the civil practice of law wins the Bartley Award, through years of public service, range of experience in various aspects of civil law, notable contributions to public service and leadership on important legal and public policy issues.The award is named in honor of James M. Bartley, a longtime public lawyer and judge in Clark County.

 

The state bar's Public Lawyers Section annual meeting took place on May 8 during the 2014 Nevada Government Civil Attorneys Conference at Harveys Resort in South Lake Tahoe. This was the 10th year the section co-sponsored the conference with the State of Nevada Advisory Council for Prosecuting Attorneys. ABA Announces 2014 Silver Gavel Awards

   

The American Bar Association has announced its selections for the 2014 Silver Gavel Awards for Media and the Arts. The awards recognize outstanding work in media and the arts to foster the American public's understanding of law and the legal system. The awards are the ABA's highest honor in recognition of this purpose.

 

The ABA will present six Silver Gavels and three Honorable Mentions from 169 entries received in all eligible categories: books, commentary, documentaries, drama and literature, magazines, newspapers, radio, television and other media. The awards ceremony will take place on July 22 in Washington, D.C.
