Justice League of Nevada Seeks Trustee Candidates
The Justice League of Nevada invites attorneys to submit applications for its Board of Trustees. The application form, as well as a complete job description, is available online. The application should be downloaded, completed and sent to Dara Goldsmith at dgoldsmith@goldguylaw.com on or before October 18.
This organization serves the legal needs of disadvantaged Nevadans by developing funding opportunities to serve those needs. Through administration and funding, the Justice League of Nevada aims to gain equal access to justice for those that need it most.
Board member responsibilities include participating in meetings, serving on committees and advocating for the work of the Justice League of Nevada. Any person who is not subject to the Nevada Code of Judicial Conduct may apply to serve a two-year term.

Reno Attorneys Needed for Lawyer Referral Program
The state bar's Lawyer Referral and Information Service provides participating attorneys with pre-screened referrals from potential clients in specific areas of practice. This service costs $50 per year and generates, on average, 100 referrals per attorney per year. The service is currently seeking attorneys practicing in Reno in the following areas:
- Employment law
- Immigration law
- Civil Rights law
To be eligible to join the service, you must be a member in good standing with the state bar, and provide proof of errors and omissions insurance with minimum coverage of $250,000 per claim and $500,000 aggregate limits. To register, visit the state bar's website.

Las Vegas CLE: Professional Negligence Cases After Egan v. Chambers
This CLE program, worth two CLE credits, will cover the past, present and future of professional negligence litigation in Nevada. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, October 8, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Las Vegas City Hall. For more information and to register, visit the state bar's website.
Speakers Richard Dreitzer and Donald Paradiso will put some historical perspective on the requirements of NRS Chapter 41A, discuss the changes to this landscape wrought by the Nevada Supreme Court's recent decision in Egan v. Chambers, 129 Adv. Op. 25 (2013), and speculate on possible statutory changes yet to come. Attendees will also pick up some valuable practice pointers.

Free CLE - Representing Abused & Neglected Children
Join Judge Frank P. Sullivan and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada staff attorneys Melissa Casal and Christal Dixon as they teach the ins and outs of representing children in foster care. This CLE will take place on Friday, October 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m at the William S. Boyd School of Law. View the flyer for additional details and to register for the CLE. All attorneys who attend must take a new pro bono case.
Attendees will learn the role of a children's attorney in abuse and neglect proceedings, find out how the court is structured and how cases proceed through dependency court, and learn tips for building a client relationship with a child. The seminar will also cover permanency planning and preparing teenage clients to age out of the system.

Washoe D.A. Richard A. Gammick Wins 2013 William Raggio Award
The Nevada Advisory Council for Prosecuting Attorneys (NACPA) has selected Washoe County District Attorney Richard A. Gammick as this year's William Raggio Award recipient.
Gammick has served in the Washoe County District Attorney's office for nearly 20 years and will retire when his term expires at the end of 2014. Before winning the District Attorney spot in 1994, he worked as a Deputy District Attorney and Chief Deputy District Attorney for Washoe County. Gammick also served as an officer in the United States Army and as a police officer in Reno.
Each year the NACPA selects a current of former prosecutor who has made a significant contribution to improving the administration of justice in Nevada for this honor. The award is named after Nevada Senator William J. Raggio, a former Washoe County District Attorney.
