Legislative Update:
Animal Law

At the last legislative session, several important steps were made towards protecting animals in Nevada. One new law prohibits the sale of dogs and cats at swap meets; another prohibits breed discrimination in regulations. The definition of animal cruelty has been expanded to prohibit horse tripping.

This webinar, led by Jennifer Braster, will discuss the latest updates to animal law in Nevada, including these new laws introduced as a result of the 2013 Legislative Session. An overview of trends in animal law across the country will also be discussed.

Bi-Partisan Support for Nevada Court of Appeals

A bi-partisan political action committee (PAC) hopes to raise voter awareness of Nevada's need for a court of appeals. The newly formed PAC, called Nevadans for a Court of Appeals, is co-chaired by Sen. Richard "Tick" Segerblom (D-Las Vegas) and Sen. Greg Brower (R-Reno).

In order to amend the Nevada Constitution to allow the creation of an appellate court, Nevada voters must approve that resolution at the next general election. The issue will go to the voters in 2014.

Nevada is currently one of only 10 states in the U.S. without a court of appeals.
