Nevada Supreme Court App Now Available for Android

The Nevada Supreme Court has expanded online access to court documents and information by launching an Android version of a popular application. The same app has been available for both iPhones and iPads since March. The new Android app allows those attorneys and members of the general public who do not utilize Apple devices to have the same mobile access to court documents.

Both versions of the app include a function allowing case document access similar to the case search function available through the Supreme Court website's public portal. Those utilizing the apps can access publicly filed briefs, motions, orders and opinions. Documents filed in the cases can be easily pulled up in PDF format. Both systems allow users to create lists of their "favorite" cases for even easier access. Users can also view the court's calendar, watch live webcasts of Supreme Court oral arguments, and listen to recordings of previously-held oral arguments. News items, court information and self-help court forms are also available.

The Android app is available for free download through Google Play. The Apple version can be found through iTunes

Nevada Lawyer Magazine Seeking Law Stories from Abroad

The November 2013 issue of Nevada Lawyer will focus in part on Nevada lawyers working outside the U.S. If you are a State Bar of Nevada member and have practiced law, worked as a legal advisor, or served in the legal field in some capacity while in a foreign country, we want to hear from you.

Nevada Lawyer is currently looking for potential items ranging from short anecdotes to feature articles. If you have a story you think would be of interest to your fellow bar members, please drop us an e-mail letting us know who you are and briefly summarizing your story/interesting experience. Interested participants should contact Nevada Lawyer at on or before July 30.

Eighth Judicial District Court Department 2 Vacancy

District Court Judge Valorie J. Vega will not seek re-election next year. Vega will finish out her current term, which expires in January 2015. Her departure will leave a seat for voters to fill.

Since her appointment in 1999, Vega has presided over 293 trials and was re-elected by voters in the 2000, 2002 and 2008 elections. Vega has served the community for more than 32 years; her prior posts include Las Vegas Municipal Court judge, Clark County Deputy District Attorney, judicial law clerk and supervisor of court interpreters.

Nevada's Eighth Judicial District Court is one of the busiest courts in the nation. Fifty-two judges preside over nearly 100,000 criminal, civil and family cases filed each year. For more information about the Eighth Judicial District Court, please visit the court's website.
