Justice League of Nevada Seeks Trustee Candidates

The Justice League of Nevada invites both attorneys and lay people to submit applications for its Board of Trustees. This organization serves the legal needs of disadvantaged Nevadans by developing funding opportunities to serve those needs. Through administration and funding, the Justice League of Nevada aims to gain equal access to justice for those that need it most.

Board member responsibilities include participating in meetings, serving on committees and advocating for the work of the Justice League of Nevada. Any person who is not subject to the Nevada Code of Judicial Conduct may apply to serve a two-year term. The application form, as well as a complete job description, is available online. The application deadline is Friday, April 5, 2013.

2013 Diversity Scholarships Available

Each year, the State Bar of Nevada grants two $5,000 scholarships to UNLV Boyd School of Law students who embrace the Diversity Committee's mission to increase diversity within the membership and leadership of the state bar and the profession, and to promote cultural competence. More information and a scholarship application are available online. The application deadline is April 22 at 5 p.m.

Annual District Court Conference

The Annual District Court Conference will take place on May 9, in Las Vegas. This year, as in years past, there will be a separate breakout session devoted to bankruptcy-related topics.

A panel of bankruptcy judges will answer questions submitted in advance. Please e-mail questions for the judges to JShea@sheacarlyon.com.

Free Bankruptcy CLE

Nevada Legal Services (NLS) invites attorneys to attend a comprehensive CLE on Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy on Monday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in both Reno and Las Vegas.

The Reno presentation will take place at the Northern Nevada Bar Center, 9456 Double R Blvd., and the Las Vegas presentation at the offices of NLS, 530 South 6th Street. Registration forms for both the Reno seminar and the Las Vegas seminar are available online.

Participants can earn four CLE credits including one ethics credit. The seminar is free to attorneys who agree to volunteer with NLS, either by taking a pro bono case or by participating in a clinic. Non-volunteers may attend for a fee of $125.

Law Day Volunteers Needed to Speak to Students

As part of Law Day 2013, many Nevada students are looking forward to visits from lawyers on April 26.

Law Day organizers seek attorneys to make these visits to second through 12th graders in schools across the state. Attorneys will talk to students about this year's theme, "Realizing the Dream: Equality for All," and how it relates to the practice of law.
