The State Bar of Nevada is looking for talented professionals to apply for the position of Access to Justice Director.

The director of the Access to Justice Commission supports and coordinates State Bar of Nevada pro bono initiatives and manages all commission activities.

The qualified candidate will hold a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or equivalent training and experience. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in professional positions in the legal services field, and government or association experience is preferred.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and salary history to hradmin@nvbar.org.

Insurance and Health Law Section Seeks Nominations for Executive Committee Officers

The Insurance and Health Law Section of the State Bar of Nevada is soliciting nominations for officers to serve on the section's executive committee. Nominations can be made by petition, signed by any section member in good standing with the section and the state bar. Any such member may nominate themselves or any other member in good standing.

Those interested should submit nominations to Lori Wolk, via e-mail at loriw@nvbar.org, no later than March 20, 2013. The section will hold its annual meeting to elect officers in April. Notice of the annual meeting will be sent to all members 30 days in advance of the meeting.

Those in the north may attend via video conference at the Northern Nevada Bar Center in Reno. Lunch will be provided to attendees at both venues.

The cost is $25 for Administrative Law Section members, $30 for non-section member attorneys and $20 for paralegals and law students. Register online before Friday, March 15, 2013.

Law Day Volunteers Needed to Speak to Students on Civil Rights and the Law

Law Day 2013 is May 1, 2013. This year's Law Day theme is "Realizing the Dream: Equality for All."

2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. Law Day provides an opportunity for students to explore America's civil rights movement and its impact. It also provides a forum for reflecting on the work that remains to be done in rectifying injustice, eliminating all forms of discrimination, and putting an end to human trafficking and other violations of our basic human rights.

State Bar of Nevada members can be a part of this year's Law Day events. Organizers are seeking attorneys to visit second through 12th graders in schools across the state. They will talk to students about this year's theme and how it relates to the practice of law.

To volunteer or learn more, contact Kathleen Dickinson at kathleend@nvbar.org.

Boyd's Public Interest Law Association Honors Justice Douglas

Boyd Law School's Public Interest Law Association (PILA) presented Justice Michael Douglas with its Silver Staircase Award as a tribute to Douglas' outstanding commitment to public interest law in Nevada.

Douglas received the award during a PILA fundraising event on February 22. Early in his legal career, Douglas was an attorney for Nevada Legal Services and has continued to contribute time and energy to pro bono projects.

Justice James Hardesty received the same award in 2010. Douglas and Hardesty currently co-chair the Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission, which strives to provide legal assistance for people of all income levels.

Through PILA, Boyd provides financial assistance to students assisting civil litigants that otherwise could not afford legal aid.

Las Vegas Latino Bar Association Mixer

The Las Vegas Latino Bar Association invites bar members to attend its March mixer on Thursday, March 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Commonwealth, a bar in downtown Las Vegas, located at 525 E. Freemont Street.
