Clients' Security Fund Committee Vacancies

The State Bar of Nevada's Clients' Security Fund (CSF) Committee is seeking two new members in Nevada: one licensed attorney and one layperson. The CSF makes financial resources available to reimburse victims of attorney theft.

Attorney committee members investigate 10 to 15 claims filed with the CSF each year. All committee members analyze claims to determine whether or not attorney fees were earned and/or if attorney theft occurred; evaluate the ongoing financial condition of the CSF; and approve or deny reimbursement requests accordingly. Typical claims involve issues of bankruptcy, home loan modifications, family/domestic and personal injury law. The expected time commitment of each committee member is approximately 20 hours annually, plus two half-day meetings that take place in Las Vegas each year.

Committee members are appointed by the Board of Governors for three-year terms. Those interested in being a part of the CSF Committee should submit an application before the March 14, 2013 deadline. Applications and more information on the CSF are available on the state bar's website.

Help Train Nevada's Future Attorneys:

Become a Law Day Volunteer

The Young Lawyers Section is looking for volunteers in Las Vegas, Reno and Winnemucca to mentor high school students for Law Day Live 2013.

Volunteer mentors will visit the participating school in their area in order to help students prepare for upcoming Law Day events. They will coach young people as they craft a written legal argument and an appellate oral argument - most for the first time. The participating schools are Canyon Springs High School in Las Vegas, Damonte Ranch High School in Reno and Lowry High School in Winnemucca.

Law Day Live takes place on April 25, 2013. Two to three mentors are needed for each high school. Those interested in mentoring should contact Anjali Webster at awebster@gordonsilver.com by March 4, 2013. To learn more about Law Day Live 2013, visit the event website.

Agosti Wins 2013 Cheryl Kosewicz Award

The state bar's Law Related Education (LRE) Mock Trial Committee presented former Justice Deborah Agosti with the 2013 Cheryl Kosewicz Award.

Agosti received the award during the closing ceremonies of the northern Mock Trial competition on February 22. Agosti has coached Galena High School's Mock Trial team for several years and many of her students were on hand at the ceremony to give her a standing ovation.

Galena High School is one of the five Nevada schools sending a Mock Trial team to the state competition. Students from Bishop Gorman, Faith Lutheran, Galena, Reno and Wooster high schools will face off at the Bruce Thompson Federal Courthouse in Reno on March 8 and 9, 2013

The Award was established in honor of attorney Cheryl Kosewicz, who was an active participant in the bar's LRE programs before passing away at the age of 35 in 2007.
