Written Opinions Sought on Reappointment of Magistrate Judge Foley
The current term of office of United States Magistrate Judge George W. Foley, Jr., expires on August 3, 2013. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new eight-year term.
The duties of a magistrate judge in this court include conducting preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; trials and dispositions of misdemeanor cases; conducting various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from the judges of the district court; and trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants.
The public is invited to submit written comments on whether or not the panel should recommend Foley for reappointment. Bar President Accepts ABA Law Day Award

The American Bar Association (ABA) honored Nevada's bench and bar at its midyear meeting in Dallas. On February 8, 2013, the ABA presented bar president Frank Flaherty with an award recognizing the strength of Nevada's 2012 Law Day programming. Nevada is one of only three states in the nation receiving the ABA Law Day Outstanding Activity Award - an award it also won last year. Law Day is a nationwide, law-related educational program that takes place every spring. Organizers are planning another comprehensive, month-long Law Day program for 2013. Family Law CLE Series
The Willick Law Group and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada (LACSN) are offering four CLEs for $30 each. The classes are free to attorneys who accept one new pro bono case prior to the CLE course, or at the door.

Fourth Annual Spring Fling
Bar members, Boyd Law School alumni and other members of the Boyd Law School community are invited to a day of food, fun and fresh air at the Spring Fling barbecue and softball tournament. This free event takes place on Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UNLV Eller Media Softball Stadium on the corner of Harmon and Swenson in Las Vegas.
