Find-A-Lawyer Now Available for Smartphones
 

The State Bar of Nevada's convenient Find-A-Lawyer attorney directory is now available as a smartphone app for Android and iPhone users. Apple users can download the app via iTunes.

 

The application provides users with quick and easy access to listings for all currently licensed attorneys in Nevada. Each attorney's profile provides current contact information, including website, e-mail address, phone number and mailing address.

 

Potential clients can use the app to confirm that attorneys are licensed to practice in the state of Nevada. Fellow attorneys can use the application to quickly contact their peers within the Nevada legal community.

Attorneys: The State Bar of Nevada is Hiring
 

The Office of Bar Counsel is seeking candidates for an Assistant Bar Counsel to work out of the state bar's Las Vegas office. The position is prosecutorial.  

 

Candidates must be attorneys licensed to practice and in good standing in any jurisdiction of the U.S. Non-Nevada-licensed attorneys must pass the Nevada bar examination and become licensed in Nevada. Desirable attributes include: litigation and trial experience, excellent legal research and writing skills, and knowledge of Supreme Court Rules, the Rules of Professional Conduct and disciplinary procedure.

Commission on Judicial Discipline Needs Temporary Member for Washoe County 
 

Beginning in February 2013, the Commission on Judicial Discipline will have an opening for an alternate member for Washoe County. The State Bar of Nevada's Board of Governors appoints members to this committee. Terms are for four years and there are no term limits. 

 

The commission meets approximately six times a year and by teleconference as necessary. Their main offices are located in Carson City. Committee members are required to travel occasionally. The commission was created by a Nevada Constitutional amendment to investigate allegations of judicial misconduct in office, violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct or disability of judges.

 

An alternate member on the commission shall serve:

a) When the appointed member is disqualified or unable to serve; or

b) When a vacancy exists.

 

Interested applicants should complete an online application form. All applications must be received no later than January 28, 2013.

Lawyers Needed to Judge ABA Law Student Competition in Las Vegas
 

The ABA Law Student Division needs 200 licensed attorneys to serve as moot court competition judges February 14-16, 2013 at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse (333 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89101).

 

Please visit the ABA website for specific details. Select the Las Vegas competition to sign up as an oral argument judge. The ABA appreciates your help!

Southern Nevada Mock Trial Judges Needed
 

Southern Nevada's 19 high school Mock Trial teams are still looking for volunteers from the legal community to serve as scoring and presiding judges for the afternoon session of the upcoming Southern Nevada Mock Trial Competition.

 

Scoring judges rate the performances of student attorneys and witnesses on both sides of the case; presiding judges play the role that real judges hold in actual trials.

 

The competition will take place at the Regional Justice Center on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Orientation for the afternoon session will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m., and lunch will be served. The afternoon round begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
