Bar Members Invited to Attend Las Vegas Retirement Celebration for Judge Johnston

Commemorate the career of U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert J. Johnston on the occasion of his retirement. A retirement celebration will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Carol C. Fitzgerald Jury Assembly Hall, Lloyd D. George United States Courthouse, Las Vegas. Lunch will be served with a program to follow.

Those planning to attend must RSVP to Marlene Reid at or (702) 464-5550.

LBA and NBA Holiday Mixer and LBA Election

The Latino Bar Association (LBA) and National Bar Association (NBA) will host a holiday gathering on Friday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m. The event will take place at the home of Marteresa Rivera-Rogers, 3191 Duneville St., Las Vegas. Guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d'hoeurves and plenty of opportunities to mingle with fellow attorneys. The annual LBA elections will take place during the mixer.

Those planning to attend the mixer should RSVP to by December 12. The event is free but each guest should bring a new, unwrapped toy for donation to a local charity.
Southern Nevada Mock Trial Judges Needed

Southern Nevada's 19 Mock Trial teams are still looking for volunteers from the legal community to serve as scoring and presiding judges during the upcoming Southern Nevada Mock Trial Competition.

Scoring judges rate the performances of student attorneys and witnesses on both sides of the case; presiding judges play the role that real judges hold in actual trials.

The competition will take place at the Regional Justice Center on February 9, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers may sign up for just the afternoon session, just the morning session or both. Most volunteer attorneys find they get back as much as they give when participating in this one-of-a-kind event.

Interested volunteers should contact Kathleen Dickinson at or (702) 317-1408.
