NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 14, 2014
Jersey Mike's offering first deal of the New Year!
Free sandwiches with PPIE donation
Jersey Mike's, a new sub sandwich shop opening in town on January 15, has designated PPIE as their Opening Week Beneficiary!

Jersey Mike's is distributing 10,000 "FREE SUB" cards throughout the community. Cards can be picked up at your school office, at the Chamber of Commerce, at the PPIE office and at the Jersey Mike's store at 6654 Koll Center Parkway.

When you bring in cards January 15 - 19, Jersey Mike's will give you a free sandwich in exchange for a minimum donation of $1 to PPIE, which will receive 100% of all donations.

We appreciate Jersey Mike's effort to support our community. Please patronize their business and enjoy eating well to benefit education!
Spring Push is here!
March 31st deadline for next year's programs
LET'S FUND IT AGAIN! The deadline for the 2014-2015 Giving Fund Campaign is March 31, 2014- just three months away! As of today, the Giving Fund has raised $372,000 with 10.7% of families participating. That's 10.7% percent of families supporting the entire school district. Think we can do better?  If you've already donated in this year's Giving Fund Campaign, share this email with your friends and coworkers and talk to them about PPIE...Together we can do it!

Although the budget news has been good and no cuts from Sacramento are anticipated, Pleasanton Unified is not one of the school districts that will receive a lot of new money under the revised state funding model, which allocates more dollars to help serve socio-economically disadvantaged students, English learners, and foster youth across the state.  If we want to return programs WE lost during the Great Recession and more quickly move to smaller class sizes, we will need to help close that funding gap.

We thought we'd help put a face on one of the programs PPIE has supported.  Last year, your Giving Fund Dollars provided additional hours for Library Assistants like Ellen Williams at Valley View Elementary. Her presence allows the library to extend its hours so students like 4th grader Sam Bruner can visit and check out books more often.

This year, of course, our 1st graders are enjoying Class Size Reduction at 25:1. We know you want smaller class sizes, and for more grade levels, so LET'S FUND IT AGAIN!

$600,000 working in our classrooms THIS YEAR!
Just a quick reminder...we raise money during the current school year to help with programs for the following year.  So, where are your last year's donations now??  The schools have now reported back to us how they are spending the funds, and we couldn't wait to share it with you!

Of course, we all know that PPIE and your donations made this year's Class Size Reduction for our 1st graders possible, right? But what else is happening?

Technology needs really seemed to drive the conversation, along with the support for Technology Specialists. Check out the details for your school at our Giving Fund 2013-14 Site Expenditure Report.

What other communities are doing?
Most have a 50-80% family participation rate in their Ed Foundation giving AND a parcel tax! Check out our FAQ to see just what other local communities are doing to help their schools and why PPIE's role is so important.
