Beginning July 1, 2016, the State of Oregon will begin implementation of a multi-tiered minimum wage system with significant annual increases. The law will be officially enacted as soon as Governor Brown signs the bill (as she has indicated is her intention).
The new law imposes three geographic-specific minimum wage rates:
- The Base Rate (Benton, Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Deschutes, Hood River, Jackson, Josephine, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Tillamook, Wasco, Washington and Yamhill Counties);
- The Portland Urban Growth Boundary Rate; and
- The Nonurban Counties Rate (Baker, Coos, Crook, Curry, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Jefferson, Klamath, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, and Wheeler Counties).
The rate schedule below shows the rate increases across time for each geographic area. Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries is charged with adopting rules for determining an employer's location for purposes of determining which rate applies.
