the Food Pantry!

July 2015

TCAA's food pantry serves as a lifeline for many of the people we serve -- providing them food when they need it most. With more than 1,174 families served per month, we are always looking for new ways to fund and fill the pantry. This past month we've received much-needed support that will allow us to keep the shelves stocked and offer expanded hours -- now also open Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Many thanks to the Arizona Association of Food Banks for the new freezer, United Way for the $25,000 grant, and Tempe Community Council Foundation for the $15,000 grant. We appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Bill Epps

Shower Power 2 TCAA In Action: Shower Power

Do you know that TCAA has two portable shower units that are available to rent for various programs and events? These self-contained trailers offer shower facilities for 20-25 people an hour - all that is needed is a water hose and a 220 electrical line for the water heater.

Who uses these units? Well, our I-HELP partners use one of them four times a week to provide clients with opportunities to freshen up for general hygiene and especially for job interviews. Paz de Cristo and Project Homeless Connect rent a unit several times a week. Other churches and nonprofit agencies are looking to use them as part of their homeless outreach. The four-hour nonprofit rate, which includes delivery and set-up, is $300.

At a cost of $30,000 a unit, the trailers are an investment in our community, but rent can offset the cost and provide additional income for TCAA. We're currently reaching out to for-profit organizations that may need such a facility for special events, and marketing to area city and philanthropic groups that host such events as Mud Run, triathlons, etc.

If you know of an organization, church, company, or special event that could benefit from the Shower Power rolling up to their venue, cont
act Sam Sumner at [email protected] or call 480-350-5886.
