Advancing achievement
for black men, boys

Allen co-hosts Twitter Chat asking how philanthropy can help
Greetings!

August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time when philanthropy focuses on what African Americans are contributing -- and need -- from the field. This week, the Foundation Center's Black Male Achievement Funders, along with Black Gives Back, hosted a TweetUp, asking how philanthropy can advance achievement for black men and boys. Since this is a topic the Foundation cares deeply about, CEO Tonya Allen joined the chat as a co-host, asking questions like, "How can the field take advantage of the fact that boys of color are a hot topic right now?" Nearly 150 people contributed to the conversation. Read Tweets from the chat, which was also hosted by Shawn Dove of the Open Society Foundations' Campaign for Black Male Achievement, and more by searching #BPM2013 on Twitter

Video blog: Teens help neighbor in need
Detroit youth and teens involved with the nonprofit Bridging Communities learned a neighbor in their community needed help. Her house was covered in overgrowth. The city assumed it was abandoned and planned to knock it down. Watch our Rose for Detroit video blog post to see how they helped.

Caring adults, find a 'bonus baby'
CEO Tonya Allen writes in her latest Rose for Detroit blog post about her "bonus babies," and challenges caring adults in Detroit to become a "bonus parent" to a child in need. Read more.
