Foundation announces Request for Proposals for high-quality youth development programs
Last week, the Skillman Foundation announced a new Request for Proposals for its youth development work. The Foundation will be funding all of its youth development work through this RFP process moving forward. Today, and on July 22, the Foundation is hosting technical assistance sessions for grant seekers who have questions about the new process or a program's eligibility. These sessions will be held at the Foundation's office (100 Talon Centre, Suite 100, in Detroit) and will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Later this week, check our web site, where we will compile a FAQ page for RFP questions that will be updated through July as new questions come in. Find it at www.skillman.org/How-We-Work/Investment-Areas/Youth-Development.

New series to examine changes in Osborn neighborhood
Today, ModelDMedia.com is debuting a pilot media project, a partnership with the Foundation and two of its nonprofit partners. The online magazine will cover innovations and transformations happening in two targeted neighborhoods, beginning with the Osborn neighborhood, in a series called, "On the Ground." Model D reporters and editors have taken up office space at the Matrix Center with the Osborn Neighborhood Alliance. From that space, they will spend 90 days exploring positive innovations taking place among residents, organizations, youth and businesses in the neighborhood. Later this year, they'll move to Brightmoor to cover stories in that neighborhood. The Osborn “On the Ground” community kick-off meeting is happening from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Detroit Public Library Franklin Branch (McNichols at Gratiot).
