Shake, Rattle & Spin! Don't Miss This Video!

Halstead and SNAG's recent Design Challenge was a huge success! 100 lucky recipients of the 2016 Halstead Design Challenge kits were asked to create a kinetic brooch using the supplies in the kit and adding a found object.

Selected brooches were on display and for sale at Blue Spiral 1 gallery in Asheville, NC last month. Winners of the contest were announced at the exhibition. Unsold work from the exhibition will be featured in an online sale on SNAG's website soon.

Be sure to watch this amazing not-to-be-missed video of the brooches in action!

A huge thank you to Halstead, Hilary Halstead Scott, Samantha Skelton, and Brigitte Martin for organizing and jurying the design challenge.

Presented by The Vancouver Metal Arts Association, Craft Council of BC Gallery, November 24 - December 8, 2016.

UNEXPECTED explores the strange and sometimes discordant elements that make the viewing, wearing, and making of Contemporary Jewellery an enjoyable endeavor. What does the unexpected add to your practice? What does the freedom to work outside the domain of what is typically considered 'jewellery' give to your work? How do you navigate bringing outsider skills, techniques, concepts or materials into your jewellery practice?

Call for entry
Deadline for photo submission: September 1, 2016.

Curator Lexie Owen has set the conceptual tone of the show, inviting five outstanding international and Canadian jewellery artists to show their work alongside that of the VMAA membership, as generated through a juried open call.
