In Remembrance: Mary Ann Scherr
Mary Ann Scherr, recognized as one of America's most prestigious and influential designers, died at her home in Raleigh, NC on March 1st. She was 94 years old. Scherr's voluminous resume includes seven decades of work as a designer, metalsmith, jeweler, educator and studio artist. Her many honors include SNAG's Lifetime Achievement Award. SNAG Lifetime Achievement Award Honors Gary Noffke
SNAG is pleased to announce the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Gary Noffke. Known for his versatility, technical prowess, and originality, Noffke is a blacksmith, coppersmith, silversmith, goldsmith, and toolmaker. Noffke is noted for his technical versatility, his pioneering research into hot forging, the introduction of new alloys, and his ability to both build on and challenge traditional techniques. He has been called the metalsmith's metalsmith, a pacesetter, and a maverick. Read more about Gary Noffke's achievements.
The 2016 SNAGneXt conference will be dedicated to Noffke and he will receive his award during the Opening Remarks in Asheville on May 19th.

Kissing Otter Pendant by Parker Brown Sterling Silver
The link depicts two kissing river otters, a popular Native motif that symbolizes love and affection. Parker Brown is a historical silversmith and armoursmith specializing in armour from Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Europe. He is a member of the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts and an apprentice studying 18th century Colonial American silversmithing.

Educational Endowment Scholarships Available
SNAG annually awards three student scholarships and three emerging/mid-career artist scholarships. The jurors for 2016 are Merry Beck, Don Friedlich, and Lauren Markley. Deadline: March 17, 2016

Vivian Beer on Design Challenge Tonight
Vivian Beer, who will be featured in our next issue of Metalsmith magazine, has been a contestant on HGTV's show "Ellen's Design Challenge" and now she is one of two finalists. The grand finale airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST. Beer is a furniture designer and business owner in Manchester, NH. Check out her designs, created alongside HGTV and DIY Network carpenter Matt Blashaw.
