Join Us in Baltimore

This year at American Craft Baltimore, SNAG is partnering with the Baltimore Jewelry Center to host a happy hour event on Saturday, February 20th from 6-8 p.m. We will be celebrating both the Baltimore Jewelry Center and Metal Shop, an exhibition showcasing contemporary jewelers represented in their new gallery store. We would love for all SNAG members in the Baltimore area to join us for that evening. Baltimore Jewelry Center is at 10 E. North Ave, Suite 130.
Olivia Shih Receives SNAG/crafthaus Conference Scholarship

Crafthaus is pleased to award the 2016 SNAG/crafthaus Conference Scholarship to Olivia Shih. Shih will use the scholarship to attend SNAGneXt in May.

Shih plans to blog about gender and jewelry by interviewing artists who do not shy away from words like "gender issues," "feminism," and "sex"; analyzing the work of said artists and the reach of their work, and reinvigorating conversation about gender in jewelry by putting together an online exhibition.

Exhibition in Print Explores the "Where" of Metalsmithing

"Shifting Sites" is SNAG's 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith. It will showcase works that reveal innovative approaches to how jewelry and metal objects are conceived, made, and displayed. For this issue, the emphasis is on location or place as subject or actual space for the creation and display of work. We welcome works that expand and explore the "where" of contemporary metalsmithing: where shown or sold; where is it worn or used; where does it have environmental impact; where is work made. As a subject for metalsmithing, "site" can be understood as geography, landscape or cityscape and be revealed in imagery or forms that reference natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces. Deadline extended to February 22.
