What does SNAG mean to you? Why are you interested in committing your time and energy to our organization?I've been making work for 20 years and SNAG and the community that it fosters has been a constant source of support and inspiration throughout that time. I love that SNAG has given me a welcoming platform in which to connect with other members of the field. As a student, it allowed me to meet and have first-hand interactions with some of my metals idols, which is a crucial developmental experience for a young artist. I'm currently on the Board of the Baltimore Jewelry Center and my involvement has given me new respect for how SNAG works so hard to serve its diverse membership. I think my particular background and experience would be beneficial to the SNAG Board. I'm working hard in Baltimore to ensure people from all backgrounds have access to metals/jewelry education and workspace and I'd like to apply what I've learned on a local level to assist SNAG in its continued growth and success.

Be a part of this lunchtime talk on Thursday, May 21 from 12:30-1:15.
Notes from the Field
Maia Leppo, Jess Tolbert and Anne Fiala, emerging artists in the metalsmithing and jewelry design field, will be discussing the spaces that divide and unite the metalsmithing and jewelry community; the personal, niche, and the public spheres. Acting as ethnographers for the field, they have chosen and interviewed a group of artists, gallerists, educators, and curators who provide a representation of the field at large in order to observe the ways in which these spaces either help or hinder our personal practices. They will present these field notes during an open dialogue in an attempt to identify the strategies, successes, and problems faced when trying to craft a creative habit and build connections; and ultimately, how these connections can help us meet and expand our personal goals, and ensure a strong future for our craft. Be sure to join us for a fun and insightful dialogue on Thursday, May 21 from 4:00-5:30.

Sculpture in the Wild
Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild International Sculpture Park in Montana celebrates the rich environmental, industrial and cultural heritage of the Blackfoot Valley. Sculptors have been invited to create significant site-specific works of art using the materials - natural and industrial - that are associated with the community's economic and cultural traditions. "Re-Imagining the Delaney Sawmill TeePee Burner" is the vision of sculptor and SNAG member Kevin O'Dwyer, the artistic director and curator of Blackfoot Pathways. It will showcase black and white archival photographs of the area's historic logging industry, printed on steel plate. When completed, it will also double as a community gathering place and performance space. Learn more
