EducationMFA University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth 2004 BFA Indiana University of Pennsylvania 2001 ExperienceAssistant Professor of Art, Seton Hill University 2011- present Adjunct Professor of Art, Seton Hill University 2007-2011 SNAG Student Slide show coordinator 2013-present Studio Assistant- Dan Dailey- 2004-2007 What does SNAG mean to you? Why are you interested in committing your time and energy to our organization? What I find exciting about our field is the diversity of work that is being created beyond traditional metalsmithing. Within our community are individuals doing experimental adornment, working with new technologies, artists working in a variety of materials, and even the practice of installation or performance. My own work is furniture, hollowware, and lighting, but I consider myself a metalsmith. I think this is something unique to SNAG compared to other media specific fine craft organizations. Because of this we are always eager to welcome those that are pushing the boundaries of our discipline, where new traditions can grow from the accomplishments of the past.

SNAG Lifetime Achievement Award to be Presented to Fred Fenster
"What if...?" It's hard to believe that this simple sentence is the root of a rich career that spans over 50 years but it is the question that has driven Fred Fenster's studio practice because of its infinite possibilities. It is the question that he asks himself at the onset of each Kiddush cup, pitcher, teapot, or salt and peppershaker set. Born in 1934 in the Bronx, NY, Fenster attended City College of New York before receiving his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1960. In 1962 he was hired to teach design, jewelry and metalsmithing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and began a distinguished teaching career, which lasted for more than 40 years. Join us in presenting Fred Fenster with the SNAG Lifetime Achievement Award during the SNAG conference opening on Wednesday, May 20, 6:00 p.m.
Please note: You will need to register for the conference using a browser other than Safari.
