"What Would Mrs. Webb Do?"
"What Would Mrs. Webb Do? A Founder's Vision" runs September 23-February 8, 2015 at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. As a patron and philanthropist, Webb pioneered an understanding of craftsmanship and the handmade as a creative driving force behind art and design. The show includes works by major figures from the '50s and '60s like Jack Prip, Olaf Skoogfors, John Paul Miller, Arline Fisch, Ron Pearson, and Merry Renk, along with more recent work by people such as Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, Thomas Gentille, Lisa Gralnick, Kiff Slemmons, and Mary Lee Hu. A panel discussion is scheduled for October 7. The panel will gather together Paul Smith, Museum Director from 1963-1987; Jack Lenor Larsen, America's foremost textile designer; and Glenn Adamson, current Director. Moderated by Jeannine Falino. Weekend of Learning with Bruce Metcalf
James Renwick Alliance President, Giselle Huberman, is hosting a special weekend with artist Bruce Metcalf. On September 27 Metcalf will talk about the evolution of his work and on September 28 you can hear Bruce in dialogue with Ulysses Grant Dietz, Senior Curator at the Newark Museum in NJ. Some extraordinary pieces by the artist will be available for purchase. The event will take place at the Huberman residence in Potomac, MD. Pre-registration is required.
