Check out the Newest Uniques Sale Today!
Our second Uniques sale opens today! For this sale, we paired writers with artists. We asked writers to come up with unique insights about the various pieces that are up for auction. The pieces are being sold along with their written words. This idea is based on Significant Objects, a literary and anthropological experiment devised by Rob Walker and Joshua Glenn. Their experiment demonstrated that the effect of narrative on any given object's subjective value can be measured objectively. So, we wondered if we paired a talented, creative writer who invents a story, poem, or written words about a beautiful, well crafted piece, would the | Hazel Kuffer Siroc Fly By Night

value of the object increase? Invested with new significance by this fiction, the object should - according to Walker's and Glenn's hypothesis - acquire not merely subjective but also objective value. How to test their theory? UNIQUES Sale on eBay! The sale is on for the next two weeks. Read the stories and poems that go with the pieces. Does the writing inspire you? Do you enjoy the pairing of a writer with an artist? We are excited to see the response to our second Uniques sale! There are some really incredible pieces available. Be sure to bid early or use the "Buy it Now" feature to be sure you get what you want. By making a purchase, you'll be supporting artists and SNAG at the same time! Sale opens today at 12 pm Pacific TimeBrowse and bid here! Happy Bidding!

Quotable Quotes from May's R2S SPOT ON: Collecting
In May, Road 2 Success's SPOT ON focused on Collecting, with a Q&A with one expert each week. This past week we talked with Cindi Strauss, Assistant Director of Programming and Curator for Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In response to the question, "If there is an artist that you would like to add to the collection, are you more likely to acquire a 'typical' piece that is most recognizable as being made by that artist, or a 'standout'piece that shows the maker's extreme explorations?" Cindi wrote:
 | Cindi Strauss |
"The most important trait is quality of conception and execution when I am looking at any work for the collection. If an artist is already in the collection, I tend to look for pieces that demonstrate qualities not already represented by pieces in the museum. If it is an artist that is new to the collection, it depends on where they are in their career. If it is an artist who has had a long career, I may be focused on acquiring a piece from a specific body of work that I feel embodies important characteristics of the artist's talents. If it is an emerging artist, I may be focused on the most recent body of work." We'll be taking a short break before our next Spot On conversation, but there will be some exciting news coming up!

The Revere Academy offers a CAD class as part of its Summer/Fall 2014 Open Session from September 1-5, 2014. This 5-day class introduces the basic tools and functions of 3DESIGN, a very popular CAD program for jewelers. Participants learn how to design original jewelry projects and then create photo-realistic pictures, which are perfect for website display, catalog and professional portfolios. The CAD-created designs are printable into 3D models for lost wax casting. The materials kit fee includes one castable printed model created from the student's CAD file and a student license for 3DESIGN CAD, good for three months. The license will be renewed for three additional three months at no additional cost for students who sign up for the advanced CAD class in the Spring 2015 Open Session. Students must provide their own lapt top (PC or Mac.)
Revere faculty member, Vasken Tanielian, will teach the class. Vasken grew up in Paris, France, where he apprenticed under master jewelers. Vasken has spent his career as a fine jeweler, designer and educator. He is one of the few classically trained goldsmiths who is also expert at CAD-CAM.
