New Perks for Giving!
For a limited time, we will be offering some new interesting perks in return for your spring donations! We have posters, stickers, awesome tote bags and more to show our appreciation for your spring donation! We are also offering a new Monthly Giving Program, that allows you to give a smaller amount every month instead of one large sum. We believe that smaller amounts given regularly over the course of the year make this a more manageable commitment on your end and it offers SNAG a steadier stream of donations. SNAG does not exist in a vacuum - please give so we can continue to bring you conferences, Metalsmith magazine and the other programming you value. Please utilize our new Monthly Giving Program and give at a level that makes sense for you. Every little bit helps and no gift is too small. We hope you enjoy the terrific perks we're offering and we hope to see you in Minneapolis next week! Donate to the Spring Giving Campaign

JA NEW YORK NEW DESIGNER GALLERY
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS Deadline: May 1, 2014 The JA New York Show has announced that applications are now being accepted for the coveted New Designer Gallery at the upcoming Summer Show, which will take place July 27th through the 29th, 2014 at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. "The JA New York show is committed to uncovering talent in the design community and providing our retailers with access to these rising stars," notes Drew Lawsky, Show Director for the JA New York Shows. "By underwriting the price of the exhibition space, as well as providing various promotional opportunities, The New Designer Gallery will support these emerging designers' entrée into our industry." Since its inception in 1977, when the jewelry designer movement was in its infancy, the New Designer Gallery has been lauded as the "birthplace of the American designer movement." The Gallery has launched hundreds of designers over the past 37 years, starting with David Yurman and including well-known talents like Alex Sepkus, Steven Kretchmer, Penny Preville, Paul Morelli, Steven Lagos, Stephen Dweck, Mark Schneider, K. Brunini, and Joseph Murray to name just a few. The New Designer Gallery is eligible to all designers who have not yet exhibited at a fine jewelry trade show. The ten chosen applicants, who will be selected from a wide pool of designers, will receive a turnkey space in the custom-designed gallery, which has recently undergone a dramatic redesign. During the show, one designer will be voted "New Designer of the Year" by an anonymous panel of editors, retailers and industry experts. The ten designers will be promoted to the media via the shows' public relations team and will be featured in all show promotional vehicles, on the show's website and on NationalJeweler.com. For more information please contact Cindy Edelstein, the New Designer Gallery Consultant.

This week, more information about our two presidential candidates, Nicole Jacquard and Tedd McDonah! We will feature both of them in coming weeks with their answers to our questions.
Tedd McDonah

Tedd currently lives in Millersville, PA where he works in and maintains his blacksmithing and non-ferrous metalsmithing studios. He is a part time studio artist, part time educator, part time tool-maker/repairman, and in the summer time, avid fisherman. His metalsmithing training came from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse and Arizona State University where he earned the degrees BS in Art, and an MFA, respectively. This semester he continues to teach at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, and for the first time at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.
Q&A
The prosperity of SNAG is dependent upon the prosperity of its membership, the exposure and relevance of our organization, and the partnerships and sponsors it can secure. What strategies do you have for generating new revenue for SNAG and new opportunities for our members?
Tedd: I am aware of the necessity for finding revenue from beyond the membership dues. I am also aware of the great burdens the current Board have been encumbered with, and the great strides taken by Board members (both past and present) and the general membership, to smooth out some of the ripples created by a faltering economy. My leadership role will involve working with the Board and Executive Director exploring revenue sources. Symbiotic opportunities such as the Trunk Show, and other online sales outlets, are simply waiting for their implementation as they are calendar based events. My thoughts are to continue with established, successful, endeavors as we further explore more options for generating revenue that are advantageous to both the organization, its members, and potential donors.

Q&A
The prosperity of SNAG is dependent upon the prosperity of its membership, the exposure and relevance of our organization, and the partnerships and sponsors it can secure. What strategies do you have for generating new revenue for SNAG and new opportunities for our members?
Nicole: SNAG thrives with its members' success and I do believe there are ways in which SNAG could help promote its participants and therefore provide a platform for their prosperity and growth. Overall I think that SNAG has been very forward thinking in regards to trying to keep relevant through redesigning the website, reaching out through various medium platforms such as Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter - AND I believe that thinking of new ways in which to display work, such as the first Online Exhibitions, have also proven to be beneficial for members and reaching a broader audience. Can we do more? Sure, you can always do more, however, financially this is a very difficult question to address - especially when SNAG itself has recently come up against economic difficulty.
Currently there is a trunk show at the national conference, now in its 4th year of displaying work of members. I think this is a wonderful idea and should continue, however, we are essentially selling to ourselves. Could SNAG continue this idea and host a 'Members Trunk Show' of sorts at the SOFA exhibitions, ACE, ACC or even Craft Boston?
Would it be possible to partner up with our Craft Centers? Could SNAG provide a further exposure to SNAG members at organizations such as Penland, Arrowmont, Haystack, Touchstone, ...., or even some of the craft museums - such as National Ornamental Metal Museum?
Also, further connecting to our sponsors - or finding new ones - could help. Currently Rio Grande sponsors a design competition - this is a great way to have a company take a vested interest in what we create and that we use their product make ideas a reality. I think this relationship is under utilized and SNAG could approach several other companies/manufacturers with this idea for exposure of both the product and the creative result. These could also form new internships or work-studies with sponsors to help members gain valuable skills and knowledge.
