Connections: Conference News You Need to Know

A Perfect Day in Minneapolis Part 2
We have asked our conference co-chairs to share their favorite things to do in the Twin Cities. This week we are featuring Emily Johnson's suggestions. Minneapolis sounds full of natural beauty and incredible art. We can't wait to see you there!

Emily's perfect day involves wonderful places to eat, hiking and exploring the Father Hennepin Bluffs Park, the Mississippi River Gorge and Stone Arch Bridge followed by a local organic dinner to be topped off with a nightcap at a Tiki style lounge!

This week, we are introducing Daniel DiCaprio, who will be running for The Nominations and Elections Committee!

Daniel DiCaprio received his MFA in metal design from East Carolina University. He is currently a studio artist, production jeweler, and adjunct faculty member of Virginia Commonwealth University. Daniel's work in jewelry and sculpture combines traditional metalsmithing with wood carving techniques and has been exhibited internationally. He is represented by Charon Kransen Arts in New York City; through which he has participated at SOFA Chicago annually since 2008, when he was an emerging artist lecturer sponsored by SNAG. This year he received the Peter S. Reed Grant, designed to help emerging artists further their studio practices. Since 2009 Daniel has been working as a jeweler at Hoover & Strong, a company committed to products made in the USA with HARMONY recycled precious metals. Daniel has been attending SNAG conferences since 2007. He is eager to volunteer and give back to the organization that has provided so much knowledge and camaraderie throughout this time in his life.

Do you like throwing parties?  Do you know a lot of people and love to talk about the field and what SNAG has to offer?  Do you have experience writing grants?  Do you like thanking people for their generosity?  Then this committee is the place for you!  This isn't a committee that will be asking for money, rather one where you support our fundraising needs through other activities.

Volunteer Spotlight: Ben Dory

Ben Dory is a graduate student at SIUC in Carbondale, IL.  Ben has volunteered at the last two SNAG conferences. In Arizona he worked at the silent auction as part of his student scholarship. Last year, he wanted to continue volunteering and worked at the portfolio review table. Ben says he's excited to dive into a role that is more year-round once school is over.
We asked Ben why he volunteers.  He said, "SNAG represents a significant portion of my (our) community. It brings a vast array of skills and interests under one banner. Without past volunteers, the organization wouldn't be what it is today. I would like to help SNAG continue to grow and continue to have a positive effect."

If Ben could have a superpower, he said he "would like an extra set of robot arms, rocket packs, flex shaft fingers, etc."

Thanks, Ben!
