Here are some more things to look forward to about joining us in Minneapolis! These workshops are open for registration and a discount is available if you take advantage of registering early. Pre-Conference Workshops: Exploring Holloware with Kevin O'Dwyer April 14-18 Explore the use of the holloware form in the production of jewelry and silverware in this hands-on class. Cost: $750. (Early registration through January 31, 2014: $700) Location: Quench Jewelry Arts Damascus Steel Patterning with Rick Dunkerley April 16-18 Learn to make one of a kind Damascus patterns using several easy techniques including forge welding of high carbon steels with an emphasis on pattern development. Cost: $650. (Early registration through January 31, 2014: $595) Location: Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center Color on Metal: Make non-precious metals come alive with Carol Warner April 22-23 Add color to metal and broaden the scope of your work while learning to create a full palette of colors and techniques for applying them to any type of metal. Enamel Surfaces: Patterns and Markings with Barbara Minor April 27-28 Explore decorative enameling techniques yielding vibrant and complex enameled surface designs, spontaneous marks and realistic images. Cost: $550. (Early registration through January 31, 2014: $495) Location: Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center Creative Metal Forming with Betty Longhi and Cynthia Eid April 27-29 Explore the possibilities of synclastic and anticlastic forming through creative hammering, manipulating sheet metal and transitioning from one type of form. Exhibition in Print 2014: Animal Instincts
Call for Entries! Deadline January 31, 2014
From prehistoric cave paintings to digital art, animals have provided creative inspiration across the centuries. "Animal Instincts," the 2014 Juried Exhibition in Print by SNAG and produced by Metalsmith, will showcase a diverse range of animal-related work from the metalsmithing field. We are seeking works that are about animals, of animals, and even for animals. Let your animal instincts run wild! Jurors: David Bielander, Bruce Metcalf and David C. Freda

 Changing Hues: Color Embraced by Metalsmiths Around the World
Deadline February 15, 2014
The exhibition is open to all metalsmiths, professional and amateur, advanced and beginner, around the world.
Seeking works whose primary theme is color, whether that be using colored materials, exploring creating colored surfaces, or encasing the object in color. Works should be about COLOR - not color as an accent or focal point, but with color embraced as their primary visual focus.

SNAG Educational Endowment Scholarships
Deadline March 15, 2014SNAG recognizes the achievements and potential of those members currently enrolled as full-time students in undergraduate, graduate and community college programs through our Educational Endowment Scholarships. Three scholarships are given annually. The scholarships are for tuition towards the artists' degree granting program. There are three tiers of awards: one for $2000, one for $1500, and the third at $1000.

 RESOLUTELY AMBIGUOUS

Contemporary metalsmiths and jewelers radically expanded the use of materials and techniques while at the same time honoring the traditions of the past.
The juried exhibition "Resolutely Ambiguous" presents work which balances traditional craftsmanship and radical use of new materials. The exhibition will be presented at the Walker Shop, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis in April 2014 as part of the SNAG conference. During the conference, lunchtime tours to the exhibition will be arranged.

Conference Student Scholarships
Deadline January 21, 2014
Educators may request a scholarship for a student. Scholarships are limited to Jewelry/Metals degree-seeking students, full-time or part-time, and including community colleges. Each scholarship covers the registration fee for the conference. Students are responsible for their travel, accommodations and other expenses. Learn more! |

Volunteer Spotlight: Liz Steiner Liz Steiner lives in New Bern, North Carolina, where she is an adjunct teacher at two community colleges. Liz coordinates the Educational Endowment Scholarships for SNAG and says she volunteers to do her part to support SNAG and the field, particularly education in our field.
