Executive Director

Hey y'all,

This week, I'm off to attend the 20th annual SOFA Chicago.  SOFA is a great place to see amazing work, meet new people and broaden horizons.

This year, SNAG is sponsoring three lectures:

SNAG Emerging Artists 2013: Dukno Yoon, Heather Bayless, and Yong Joo Kim speak about their innovative approaches to making jewelry and objects;

Time is the Creator If It's Given a Chance: The award winning Czech design team Daniel Posta and Zdenek Vacek utilize chemical and biological processes and crystal replication to develop fascinating necklaces and bracelets that hover on the boundary between jewelry and conceptual art.

Living with Silver in the 21st Century: Master silversmiths Rob and Jaap Thalen present observations on the cultural shift surrounding the decline in silver for everyday use and make the case for ways contemporary silver could and should return to our lives.

Many thanks to Don Friedlich for coordinating these - they sound amazing!

In addition, there are many other lectures about art jewelry and metalsmithing.  Be sure to check out Jewelry in the Expanded Field presented by Art Jewelry Forum, View from the Gallery: 20 Years of Studio Jewelry presented by Aaron Faber Gallery, Paley on Park Avenue presented by Ruth Lawrence Fine Art and Transformer presented by Kransen Arts.

SNAG will also have a resource table at SOFA.  Please stop by and pick up the newest issue of Metalsmith, renew your membership or just come to say hello!  I am enjoying meeting each and every one of you!
