Happy Monday!
I am so excited to announce that we have raised over $32,000 (almost three times as much as we typically raise in this time period) in individual donations and reached over $15,000 for our matching grant from the Windgate Foundation! I would like to thank those who have already been so generous in their giving. SNAG couldn't do this without your support. We still need to raise about $10,000 more dollars, so those of you who haven't had a chance to give, please take a moment to help us reach our goal!
SNAG is working hard to become a more sustainable organization and we have already achieved the following:
1. Membership has donated over $12,000.
2. Present board members have donated $8,000.
3. Past board members and presidents have donated $12,000.
4. We are coordinating an aggressive fundraising campaign which includes:
- A major donor giving campaign
- Increasing and diversifying our corporate sponsorship
- A drive to increase general membership and renewals
- An end-of-year annual appeal campaign
5. We have settled on a combination of changes in the production, printing and mailing of Metalsmith magazine that will save SNAG $20,000 a year.
We will also be introducing the following fundraising and sustainability efforts as well: - A holiday silent auction event on eBay (to be announced 10/15/13)
- A formal development fundraising plan for 2014
- A new strategic plan and sustainable business model by the end of 2014
Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to support our organization. SNAG is at a pivotal and exciting chapter and needs your help. Please consider making a tax deductible donation TODAY! In SNAG, Gwynne |

Connections: Conference News You Need to Know
We are very excited about the Minneapolis Studio Crawl - here are two of the terrific locations we will visit:
Located in the heart of the Minneapolis Arts District, The Northrup King Building and the Casket Arts Building are the two largest studio complexes with a combined total of 330+ artists. These historic factories were renovated into gorgeous artists' studios that have quickly become the hub for Minneapolis arts and fine craft production, as well as hosting the largest open studio crawl in the nation! Tenants in these buildings include full-time working studios in jewelry, ceramics, painting, photography, mixed-media, metals and furniture, as well as galleries and arts-related businesses. While some studios and business keep regular hours, many are open to the public only for monthly and yearly events. During our conference, the metal and jewelry artists in these buildings will be opening up their doors to us for an exclusive studio crawl. Please join us for refreshments, food trucks, local craft beers, and of course, jewelry! The Northrup King BuildingThe Casket Arts Building |
Juried by Judith Kinghorn, Tom Herman and George Sawyer, this show features incredible works in traditional materials.

Volunteer Spotlight: Alisha LowAlisha Low lives in Johnston, RI. She creates interactive work referencing biology and medical equipment. She is also a wax technician and metalsmith at Sherle Wagner International.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor? I'd still choose my real mentor, Dianne Reilly. She's taught me everything I know and has given me confidence in my ability to create above and beyond any idea I conceive. I've also always admired Renee Zettle-Sterling's work and would love to pick up a few pointers from her!
Alisha helps write and/or manage SNAG's press releases. "I admire the way SNAG promotes the growth and education of jewelry and metalwork. I wanted to become more involved in the metalsmithing community and this was a great way to contribute."
Thanks, Alisha!
