Week of July 29, 2013

Greetings!

Today's news blog feature comes from one of our Corporate Members, Jewelers Mutual Insurance, giving tips on what to do after a natural disaster.  We also bring you the sixth and final installment from the Professional Development Seminar,
"10 Tips for Catching & Keeping an Editor's Attention"  from Michelle Bilodeau.

If you haven't yet read the technical article from Boris Bally, "Swaging," let me take you to it here.  For those of you who might now know, swaging is a forging process in which the dimensions of an item are altered using a die or dies, into which the item is forced.  Boris shares a lot of good information.

This will be my last issue of Riveting News.  For a number of reasons, the board and I moved up my departure date to August 15.  It has truly been an honor to serve SNAG and all its members.  I urge you to continue to encourage your peers and colleagues to become members of SNAG.  Riveting News will be on hiatus at least for the month of August; watch for the announcement when it resumes.

Remember to use the many ways you can promote your event through SNAG:

1.  Springboard,  http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/springboard/opportunities/.  Basic posts are free, be sure to select the appropriate category for your opportunity.  Members can also purchase an upgraded announcement post for just $25 (compared to $100 for non-members to upgrade their posts).  And sign up for the RSS feed.

2.  SNAG's weekly news blog, depending on the type of announcement.  Contact the editor at  snagnews@snagmetalsmith.org

3.  SNAG Facebook page

4.  Use directories from our website, http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/resources-opportunities/resources/
Greetings!

Your introduction sets the tone for your newsletter and encourages the recipient to read further. Your style may be warm and casual, or technical and no-nonsense depending on your audience.

2013 INTERNATIONAL PEARL DESIGN COMPETITION
Entries are considered eligible for any of the awards being given. Let the piece you create speak for it self. All cultured pearl varieties; Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian and Freshwater of any shape and size are eligible for submission.

When you enter the CPAA competition, CPAA gives you a one-year Designer membership as an added bonus for your entry  ($500 value).

These are only a few of the opportunities you'll find at Springboard. Sign up today for the RSS feed. And help SNAG spread the word. Forward this to everyone on your email list.

Crafthaus Project Grant

The crafthaus project grant is awarded every September to a crafthaus member, regardless of location, professional background or craft field. It provides a maximum of $400 assistance/funding for a personal or group project.

Crafthaus members send in their proposed projects via email (no entry fee.) The general crafthaus membership and their supporters decide by popular vote which project they want to see supported. Crafthaus provides the project funding. The recipient blogs about the project from start to finish as a 'thank you' back to the crafthaus community.

For more information visit the crafthaus website. Deadline: August 15

Sixth Presentation from the 2013

Professional Development Seminar

View and listen to "10 Tips for Catching & Keeping an Editor's Attention" from Michelle Bilodeau.

The theme of this year's Seminar was "Sacred Cow, Purple Cow, Cash Cow," challenging the traditional notions of marketing, becoming the purple cow that stands out from the herd, and bringing in more money.
