Week of June 3, 2013

Greetings!

Today's news blog feature is a terrific technical article, "Swaging," from Boris Bally. For those of you who might not know, "swaging" is a forging process in which the dimensions of an item are altered using a die or dies, into which the item is forced.  I hope you'll spend time with this article, Boris shares a lot of good information.

We had to say goodbye to Program Manager Ellen Laing.  After being with SNAG for 2.5 years, she decided to return to working at the University of Oregon.  She did a great job and it's been a pleasure working with her.  Stepping into the Program Manager position through the end of the Minneapolis conference is Monica Hampton, formerly the Director of Education at the American Craft Council.

Last, I am so pleased to announce that Betsy Douglas has donated to SNAG her entire collection of pins she received over decades of attending SNAG's Pin Swaps.  Betsy has attended every SNAG conference since 1977 with the exception of 1982 and this year (her grandson was graduating from college).  What a wonderful legacy, thank you Betsy.  The collection is mounted in frames and we plan to hang them in the SNAG office once I corral a local volunteer to take on this project.  Betsy enabled us to exhibit the pins at our Phoenix conference last year and previously at our Chicago conference in 2006.
