Week of January 14, 2013

Greetings!

Now that Springboard has launched, we can turn our attention to upgrading SNAG News. We've been wanting to change SNAG News for awhile, moving it away from a print publication schedule of five times a year. We will be turning it into a weekly news blog. The information will be broken down into three categories:  From SNAG, From the Members, and From the Field. Watch for it to begin by the beginning of February.

From the Members includes Member Achievements. Please email us news of your awards, accomplishments and achievements together with an image of your work. Help us help you blow your own horn! Just email that to snagnews@snagmetalsmith.org.

Trumpeting the accomplishments of our members isn't just patting them on the back. Not only do they deserve to be heralded throughout the community, there is a wealth of information to be gleaned by reading them. Knowing where others have gained a foothold gives you ideas of places to send your work that you didn't know existed before.

I will continue to remind everyone that our Maker Profile Pages are a free member benefit. Take time to put your page up. If you already have a Maker Profile Page, be sure it's well populated with good images of your work. I'm surprised at the number of people who show only one or two images there.
Future of Design

Then you're ready for the Future of Design Contest - the only jewelry industry contest for designers that takes into account both your jewelry design skills and your business readiness.

The winner receives a prize package that includes ads in trade magazines, booth space at major trade events, expert business guidance and mentorship, professional photography, publicity, and more.

Save MICA!

The Maryland Institute College of Art has announced the closing of the Jewelry Design program.  This nationally recognized program

has produced hundreds of award-winning jewelry designers.

As America grows its "new" manufacturing sector, we feel closing the jewelry design program at MICA is a bad decision both for Baltimore and for America's need for young "artrepreneurs."
