Dana Singer Executive Director
|
Week of November 26, 2012
Greetings!
There are several announcements from SNAG in here this week. Our Nominations & Elections Committee is actively seeking nominations for two seats on the board of directors, and one seat on the NEC. If you have even remotely thought about how to get more involved with SNAG, now is a great time. We have so many exciting projects on the horizon over the next several years.
We're also looking for proposals for presenters as well as proposals for good panels at our 2014 conference. In addition, the 2013 Exhibition in Print curator, Susan Cohn, has put out a Call for Related Work.
I'm told that people need to hear something 7 times before it sticks. So I'll keep reminding everyone of two important changes at SNAG. Our Maker Profile Pages are now a free member benefit. And the membership dues are going to increase on January 1, 2013. If you renew by December 31 you can lock in the current membership rate for one more year (regardless of when your membership is scheduled to expire).

Exhibition in Print 2013 Call for Related Work
Metalsmith's 2013 Exhibition in Print, "As Seen By Others," will explore the power of the photograph to express the spirit of an object. The photograph is an integral part of a maker's practice. It not only records a work, it presents a maker's intention and, as such, defines how a work is understood.
More significantly, the photograph is often the only way an object is experienced; it becomes the filter by which the work is seen by others. Each work will be shown in at least two of three photographic approaches: a formal high-quality studio photograph; a casual smart-phone shot; an experimental image reinforcing the concept or function of the work.
Guest curator Susan Cohn seeks examples related to this theme of photographic translation. Find out more on SNAG's website. Deadline: January 15.
