Week of October 15, 2012
Greetings! Please join me to in welcoming John Garbett as our new advertising sales manager for Metalsmith and our various multi-media advertising opportunities. John comes to SNAG with 10+ years of successful advertising sales specifically for association publications. He started October 1, after moving to Eugene from Portland. You can reach John at jgarbett@snagmetalsmith.org. He has terrific ideas for new directions.
Our virtual exhibition space, and inaugural exhibition, launched with a bang. On the first day the exhibition was seen by 1,300 unique visitors, many of them enthusiastically pinning work from the exhibition on Pinterest and Liking it on Facebook. Click here to view The Body Adorned exhibition.

We are extremely proud of this addition to our website, and it opens up a world of possibilities for SNAG. Watch for information on our next virtual exhibition, a survey of work by classical goldsmiths.

SNAG and the Chicago Metal Arts Guild at SOFA
Our two organizations are again co-hosting a social event. Come join us for a coffee break Friday morning, November 2 from 11:00 to noon, and enjoy coffee, tea, bagels and pastries. That's immediately after the second jewelry/metals lecture that morning--Marjorie Simon talking about Gothic jewelry and the 2012 Exhibition in Print--in room 328, just a few doors down from the lectures in room 324.
Here are the SNAG-sponsored lectures at SOFA this year.

Artists represented by (in order of listing): Pistachios, Chicago; Charon Kransen Arts, New York; and Hedone Gallery, Leonia, NJ.
*** Gothic: Jewelry on the Edge, 10 - 11 am, room 324
Using the 2012 Metalsmith Exhibition in Print, Gothic Jewelry: Sinister Pleasures, Marjorie Simon, craft writer and jeweler, discusses Gothic influence and inspiration in contemporary jewelry. Who were the Goths anyway? To what do we attribute their continuing influence? And don't miss the special exhibition of work from this EIP on the show floor.
Killer Jewels, 12:30 to 1:30, room 324 Canadian artist and jeweler Paul McClure shares his fascination with microbiology, pathology and genetics to reveal the attraction and fear of the invisible that lurks within us. Represented by L.A. Pai Gallery, Ottawa, Ontario
PLUS More than One to Make One--the Jewelry of Kiff Slemmons,
Saturday, 12:30 to 1:30, room 327
Kiff Slemmons examines ideas about scale and classification, imperfection, value in materials, and the capacity of materials for metaphor. These inquiries over the last 25 years led her to design jewelry of handmade paper for a cooperative in Oaxaca, Mexico. "More than one to make one" is an idea about the making of an individual piece, a series, and the installation of an exhibition. Represented at SOFA by Harvey Pranian Art & Antiques, Evanston, IL
