Week of September 3, 2012
Greetings!
Happy Labor Day, and let's give thanks to the people who brought us what we know as the weekend.
We have begun to make changes to how we produce our conferences. The first step is a new Conference Programming Committee comprised of members in different areas of the field and the local co-chairs of each conference. They will work on multiple conferences (with staggered terms) so the local co-chairs aren't starting from scratch each year.
It's an august list: Jewelry designer Geoffrey Giles, blacksmith/metal fabricator Stephen Yusko, art jeweler and educator Anya Kivarkis, and the Executive Director of the Metal Museum, Carissa Hussong. They will begin working this month on the 2014 conference program working with co-chairs Emily Johnson and Dominique Bereiter.

Tiffany Creates Rubedo, a New Metal Alloy
In honor of Tiffany's 175th anniversary, modern-day alchemists have made a new precious metal for jewelers.
An element analysis conducted by a gold refinery in Midtown Manhattan found that Rubedo is about 31 percent gold and nearly 55 percent copper, along with silver and a smidgen of zinc. Its name, Rubedo, means "red" in Latin.
