March 14th is actually "National Potato Chip Day"
March 2016
We bring Present...ations

Yup, it was the shortest month of the year.  But there was an additional day...a leap day, if you will...so it wasn't quite so short.  Still found time to:
  • Go to Washington DC and meet with two Congressmen (and with staff members of several other Congressmen and the two Senators from Ohio)
  • Start seriously looking for new, larger digs for Simplex-IT
  • Welcome Craig Parrish as the newest member of Simplex-IT
  • Say goodbye to my Windows Phone and hello to Android
  • Put together a plan for some cool Office 365 events (3 of 'em!) in March
  • Plan a presentation to the Hudson Rotary Club in March
  • Plan another presentation to the Akron Chapter of the AITP in March
Include the two other webinars and Simplex-IT is presenting for 7 events!  I think that's a record, even for us.

Free webinar on March 10th!
Full disclosure, I love OneNote. I use it almost every single day. These are some of my favorite features:
Multiple notebooks - OneNote notebooks are similar to traditional notebooks or binders. You can have multiple notebooks, depending on how you like to organize your work.

Free webinar on March 17th!
Everyone wants to finish projects on time and within budget, right? And we start off with a solid plan to do so, but things change along way. Pretty soon our deadline is here, the project isn't done, and you've spent too much. So what happened?

Free webinar (part 1) on March 3rd
We've seen such a demand for Office 365, we put together a 3-part series to familiarize you with the product offerings and talk about how exactly to get started with it. This is exciting!

You don't still wear parachute pants or watch Lost, so why are you still using SQL 2005? This was the year Carrie Underwood won American Idol and a love stricken Tom Cruise jumped up and down on Oprah's couch declaring his love for Katie Holmes. Doesn't that seem like EONS ago?

I'm Craig Parrish, the newest addition to the Simplex-IT tech support team.

I've worked in technology for almost 20 years now.  I started with a consulting company in Atlanta, GA building PCs and Servers, then installing them.  I also worked the helpdesk when I wasn't traveling.  I'm originally from northeast Ohio and decided to relocate back, and ended up working primarily in healthcare technology for the majority of my career.  I was also an adjunct technology instructor for a couple years at a local college.  My specialty is systems/network administration and leveraging technology to add value to business operations.

Virtually every kind of online account requires a password. Yet, due to the aggressive nature of hackers, passwords alone are no longer enough to protect your information. The best way to approach network security is to have more protections in place than just a flimsy password.

Mobile devices are challenging the traditional perception of the office environment. When employees bring their own devices to work, this is called Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), and it's an increasingly popular trend. Initially thought of as a threat, BYOD is proving to be a valuable option for businesses wanting to increase productivity, so long as it's regulated properly.

Businesses always try to eliminate unnecessary costs, but printing isn't necessarily everyone's first idea of an unnecessary cost. With so much revenue being invested in paper, ink, and toner every year, just think of how many resources this can free up for your business if you could find a way to eliminate them from your budget. With the right technology solutions, you can easily cut costs on printing.

The introduction of new and exciting technologies keeps changing the ways people interact. Innovations such as email, instant messaging, and the development of mobile devices are now turning out to be just fundamental steps to a more connected planet. The Internet of Things is set to turn human civilization on its head. What does this shift mean for the immediate future?

When running a business, you can't always upgrade your technology to the latest and greatest equipment or software every time something new comes out. Yet, you also don't want to be left behind, which would be limiting to your growth and mobility. Moving forward can be a daunting task, especially if you haven't revamped your IT strategy in some time. Paying attention to the details is an important part of avoiding potential roadblocks with your future IT strategy

Microsoft's most recent addition to the Windows family of operating systems, Windows 10, is full of new features, but when it comes to implementing it, many businesses are still dragging their heels. However, the primary reason for this seems to be the fact that organizations want to make sure Windows 10 won't break their IT infrastructure.
Plain Funny

I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this with you.  It's actually a commercial.

About unicorn poop.  Kinda.

The product is actually serious.  From a marketing concept this is absolutely brilliant.  The video has over 18 million views.

Can you think of another way this product could get this kind of visibility?  Amazing.  And a little disturbing.
