We have a lot of new things coming in 2016. Read on for more...

January 2016
2015 Wrap up...

Oy. This one's finally over. I can't think of a year that's been as full of changes and challenges from as many sides as this past year. Spoiler alert: For the most part the endings were good ones. Or at least non bad endings.

First the business. Wow. I started the year with the goal of really changing Simplex-IT within. The growth we'd been experiencing over the past several years (annual revenue growth of between 20-35%) simply could not have been maintained beyond 2017-18. Our internal processes and procedures weren't sufficient for the size organization we would become. Instead of waiting...

Free Lunchinar:  IT Trends for 2016

Yeah, we stopped having Lunchinars every month.  But not have them at all?  Don't think so!  We've done this event every January since 2011.

Back in October we mentioned that Microsoft was working on "Office 365 Planner" a planning tool designed to be easy to use for those cases where MS Project might not be a good fit. Well, it's getting closer. We are planning a demo of Office 365 Planner on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.

One of the new features of Office 2016 is the recently used file attachment options in Outlook.  You can access your recent items right from your email message. So when you're working on a document and want to send it as an email file attachment, all of your recent files are right there to select.

The 6th Annual Simplex-IT Geek Raffle was a huge success and everyone had a great time! We sold $352 in Raffle tickets, and received donations of $100 from Search Masters Inc. and $250 from Wolters Kluwer. Simplex-IT added an additional $500 and brought the total amount raised for Hattie Larlham to $1,202!

Ok...the concept of Silos, especially when looking at IT processes is nothing new. I actually wrote an article about it back in the early 90's (using, of course a quill pen and ink from an octopus). But I was curious about this book (since it seemed to be steeped in real-life examples).

You're a small business, and as such, you need technology in order to keep your operations moving forward. Many organizations will refer to their services and products as "enterprise-level," as if there's a certain draw to them that wouldn't ordinarily be there.

There's an intrusive malware on the Internet that locks a user out of their PC and directs them to a fake IT support phone number. In addition to being inconvenient, it can lead to the theft of sensitive information. If this happens to you, whatever you do, don't call the fake phone number.

Email is an aging communication protocol, but it's still an important asset nonetheless. Even though society continues to push toward bigger and greater things, the modern office still depends on having an email solution for a communication medium.

Previous versions of Windows made users jump through hoops to get rid of their unwanted apps and programs, but Windows 10 makes it much easier to do so. In fact, there are three easy ways to eliminate your unnecessary apps and programs.

Security is a top priority in today's business environment, especially following high-profile hacks of notable enterprises. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that these hacks could have been prevented if both the employees and employers of these organizations followed strict security best practices for their technology.

There was a time when the cloud was considered nothing more than a novelty, but now that most serious businesses are taking full advantage of cloud computing, it's time that you consider it a viable option for your organization. For those who are unfamiliar with cloud computing, though, you want to make sure that you properly plan out the process of moving to the cloud.

Plain Funny

Yeah, yeah, yeah...Star Wars, this, Star Wars that.  I think this past holiday season we forgot the real meaning of Christmas.

That's right.  Super Heroes.  Oh, and Santa Claus.
