Plain Funny #69
Issue: #69January/2014

Ok, as years go, 2013 was...interesting. I'd call the Browns season a melt-down, but the things melting were mostly hopes and dreams. Reminds me of my dating days.

The Indians were a great surprise. The Cavs were/are...well, the Cavs.

Yes, I'm still doing Improvisational Comedy with PNR (as you can see in the picture from a recent show).

On our side of the fence, business as usual. Which means changes all over the place, but hopefully good change. Alaa Hamdan was our first Intern at Simplex-IT. He went on to bigger and better things a few years ago, but then came back to us as a Network Technician back in May. Our latest intern, Jeff Buskirk is our newest Technician.

Brandon King, meanwhile, has become a Borg (sorry, I just love saying that<g>). He's caught the attention of the folks at Google in joining their Google Glass Explorer program. He's been so active and productive that they've singled him out on several occasions to get his feedback about the Glass program.

And yes, I joined the program recently. I am a Borg, although I don't wear the Glass product (or use it) anywhere near as Brandon-Unit.#50223948-3 (or as we refer to him, "#50223948-3").

We've received some organizational awards, which is pretty cool. MSP Mentor, one of the top groups for Managed Service Providers (the stuff we do) recognized us as one of the "Top 500 MSP's in the World," as well as "Top 100 MSP's under 10 employees in the US."

Sorry, but this is a bit of a long one...click here to read the rest.

When is a Picture Worth 100,000 "Likes?"
On December 3rd, FaceBook's Man About Town (George Takei, best known as Lt/Captain Sulu from Star Trek) posted a picture of a clever Christmas Wreath.  A lovely wreath, its beauty is only enhanced by the clever edition of Star Trek bad guy Khan as portrayed by Ricardo Montalban).

The title of the photo, of course, is "The Wreath of Khan."

As of January 1st, that photo received just under 100,000 "likes" and almost 20,000 shares.

It's our wreath.  In our office.  Except for nobody knowing it's us, we're famous!

Our Lunchinars have a new home!
Going on our sixth year of monthly Lunchinars, they've been a fixture in Simplex-IT's monthly programs.  And we were saddened to hear that our home for most of that time, Hattie's Café, closed at the end of 2013.

But we're very pleased to say that we've found a new home (for the Lunchinars, we're not going anywhere).  The Hampton Inn in Stow (right off of the Steels Corner exit of Route 8) is our new home starting this month (Jan 15th is our next Lunchinar, btw).

Useful Tips for Word 2013

By Michele Bobola

Michele Bobola is a professional trainer who will be working with us on a couple of new projects coming up.  Among them is a webinar on 12 December for our customers about using Microsoft Word 2013 more effectively.

I'm sure you are familiar with Microsoft Word and have been using it for a long time. But are you utilizing the full features and understanding some of the new features in 2013?  For instance, what is the deal with the defaults. Who decided that spacing should be set at multiple lines and the font should be Calibri?  Where did the ruler go?  Let's fix it so that you don't have to change it every time you open a new document.

Are you utilizing the Quick Access toolbar - "What's that?" you say.  We will find out.  What about the new Reading View - eliminate all the distractions on the screen so you just see the document - much like a reader.

Plain Funny #69

Back to Star Wars.  Ok, there was actually another video that had the office almost in tears laughing, but there was some potentially offensive language.

But this one is still pretty good.  I mean, what needs a Bohemian Rhapsody if not Star Wars?
