In June I spent a week outside of Austin, Texas fundraising for our new initiative, a community library. A couple from Texas who has been sponsoring a student, Sayid Bangi, since 2006 came to visit their "son" in August 2012. Upon returning home, the realization of what they experienced with Connect Africa inspired them to invite me to their community.
The sponsor gave Bangi the task of writing "why the need for a library"
"Thanks for giving me this chance and also have a hand in this life
changing initiative. This will be the first library built on a local
level in such a rural area, which is a great mileage towards
educational development in the entire community. It's a long-term
initiative that will attend and shape the minds of those to come.
It will build a lasting relationship between the local community and CAF."
The goodwill of the Austin community raised $20,318. The library will be attached to our existing "meeting area" as well as a room for our future computer center.
