Chamber Leadership Institute Project 'Cleans Up' Myths About Homelessness
|

On April 29, the San Rafael Leadership Institute class project provided the opportunity for the business community to connect with homeless job seekers in hopes of creating meaningful employment experiences - all while cleaning up the streets of East San Rafael.
With 1,309 homeless individuals in Marin County, the San Rafael Chamber understands the societal importance of homelessness on the landscape of our community. It is the number one concern of San Rafael residents and a growing concern for business owners in San Rafael.
Chamber Board Chair and Leadership Institute participant Bob Herbst noted, "We can't tolerate bad behavior that negatively impacts our homes and businesses. But, for those individuals who seek help, like the Downtown Streets Team members, our Chamber businesses stand ready to help them find permanent jobs so that they may become housed again."

 Celebrating Small Business Week
For nearly 25 years, my husband and I owned a small business in downtown San Rafael. It was the business with which we raised our two daughters and through which we learned the rewarding lessons that only serving your community can bring. Now, in honor of Small Business Week, I am writing to reflect on how small businesses are an intricate part of building community, and how the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce is proud to represent over 600 businesses with 26,000 employees.
