International students depart from ILA


  

 

CITY UPDATES
  • 8 students, one university student and one educator are arriving this month for ILA.
  • Early childhood education experts from the Reggio Children program in Reggio Emilia are bringing a one day conference to Fort Worth on November 4. Sister Cities is partnering with TCU and the Association for the Education of Young Children on this event.
  • Oktoberfest is coming to Sundance Square Plaza on Saturday, October 4.

  • 9 students, one adult leader and 3 university student facilitators will attend ILA July 19-August 3.

  • Hannah Schmitz, a young lawyer from Trier, will intern at Attorney Jim Lane's office July 31-October 24 to gain experience in criminal law in the U.S. 

  • 18 students, 2 teachers and 2 associate leaders returned from a successful exchange to Nagaoka and Tokyo, Japan June 9-23.

  • Nagaoka chair Ronda Stucker and her husband Walter will represent Fort Worth at a Peace Summit and the Hanabi festival in Nagaoka during the first week of August.

  • Harashin scholar students are preparing for their exchange to Nagaoka July 27-August 5. The Nagaoka students and educators arrive in Fort Worth August 8 and depart August 16. 

  • Bandung will send 6 students, one university student and one leader to ILA this July.

  • 22 tourism professionals from Bandung will visit Fort Worth in late August for an exchange focused on promoting tourism between Fort Worth and Bandung.

  • Firefighters and Disaster Relief specialists from Bandung will visit Fort Worth for an emergency management training program later this year. We are partnering with the City of Fort Worth Emergency Management and Fort Worth Fire Department on this exchange. 

  • 16 delegates, led by city councilman Joel Burns, returned from a successful exchange to Budapest and Vienna June 11-19. The delegation met city officials and leaders, visited the U.S. Embassy, explored Budapest and Vienna, and met the city leadership and volunteers in Gyor, Hungary, the city who hosted our students when they were stranded there during a snow storm in 2013.

  • 3 students and one educator from Budapest are confirmed to participate in ILA this July.  

  • 10 university students and 2 leaders from Toluca are facilitating the first Spanish Immersion Camp with Fort Worth ISD June 20-July 3.

  • Alex Garza from Toluca is interning in the Sister Cities office this summer.

  • 9 Toluca students are facilitating at the Jr. International Leadership and the high school program from July 11-August 3.

  • Councilman Sal Espino will lead a delegation to Toluca, Mexico to celebrate Dia de los Muertos October 29-November 2. Deposits are due July 17.   

  • Nancy Marchant led a group of students and adults to Mbabane, Swaziland and Johannesburg, South Africa June 10-25. 6 students, 2 associate leaders and 4 adults participated in the African Service Adventure visiting care point centers and delivering books and school supplies to the Rotary Reading Corner at the Mbabane Library.
  • Officials from Mbabane are planning a 10 year celebration in Fort Worth in September  Mbabane's new chair, Rae Hyatt, and committee are planning a gospel choir program for September 21 as part of the celebration. 

  • 8 students, one associate leader and one lead educator traveled to Guiyang and Beijing June 9-23. All were home hosted in Guiyang and visited minority villages. The delegation presented the special award for recognition of outstanding youth programs between Fort Worth and Guiyang.
  • 9 students and one leader from Guiyang are coming to Fort Worth for the International Leadership Academy.

 

 Fort Worth Youth International

 

  • Congratulations to all the youth ambassadors and delegation leaders who traveled to China, Swaziland and Japan this June. You represented us well.

  • Over 50 students have registered for Jr. ILA and ILA over 125 students and teachers participating. We will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary of ILA this year with many alums participating.

  • Special activities are being scheduled including a ranch party at Jim Lane's on August 1, the closing ceremonies on August 2, as well as a gathering on August 2. 

  
  • 4 NET members participated as Associate Delegation Leaders for the summer youth exchanges. Thank you Amy Snider, Guiyang, China; Stephanie Atkinson and Michelle Chuah, Mbabane, Swaziland; and Daisy Castro, Nagaoka, Japan.

  • International ILA facilitators from Toluca, Mexico; Mbabane, Swaziland; Trier, Germany; and Reggio Emilia, Italy will be here this summer. They will work closely with four local facilitators.

  •  Thank you to our great summer interns Alayna Sublette, TCU; Courtney Wagenseller, Texas A&M; Andrew Upton, TCU; Alex Garza, Tec de Monterrey Toluca; Stevie Hayden, University of New Mexico; and Hai Ngyuen, Depauw University.
