CITY UPDATES
  • Monthly orientations are set for 15 high school Youth Ambassadors preparing them for their spring exchange. Janet Reynolds, German teacher at Chisholm High School will lead the delegtion along with alum Karla Lopez, TCU student. Kids Who Care will also be in Reggio celebrating their 25 year partnership.
  • Thank you to TCU for hosting their first nursing exchange student, Luca Golinelli who will be recognized at the annual meeting. GRAZIE to Sharon Canclini, Nursing Professor at TCU, for coordinating his program.
  • Grazie Mille to Veronica Chavez Law as she passes the baton as committee chair to Mark & Robin Nurdin.
  • Volker Klassen, Managing Director of the Trier Airport and the Port of Trier, Vice Mayor of Economic Development Thomas Egger, and 8 business professionals will visit Fort Worth on a business exchange April 5-12. Members of the Trier sister cities organization may also join this delegation.
  • Oshogatsu, "The Year of the Horse", will be held January 23 at 6:00 p.m. at BRIT. Join your friends from the Nagaoka committee and celebrate 2014.
  • Congratulations to the youth ambassadors and Harashin scholars who were interviewed and selected last month.
  • Thank you to Tom Brents for his dedication to the mission of Sister Cities these past two years as chair.
  • A delegation of high school students from Bandung will visit Fort Worth in March as part of the Ambassador High School Program. The host school is Western Hills High School.
  • We thank Bandung chairman Brent Clifford for his two years of service and leadership of the committee.
  • Many thanks to the Budapest committee for organizing the "Dig in to Goulash and Hungarian Culture" event. It was a well-attended and educational event. Congratulations to Mary Ann White for her winning Goulash!
  • Eight 12th graders were selected as youth ambassadors to travel to Budapest in March led by FWISD educator, Maria Cruz, with Associate Delegation Leaders Cindy Vasquez, Gladys Guevara, TWU and Travis Waggoner UNT.
  • Councilman Joel Burns will lead the official delegation to Budapest and Vienna in June. Registration is now online and deposits are due by February 28. Space is limited.
  • Thank you to Trinity Valley School as Ambassador School for a 3 week exchange with 5 high school students and 2 teachers from Toluca Nov. 17 - Dec. 7.
  • All Saints Episcopal School will host students from Toluca March 18-29.
  • Twenty four university engineering students from Toluca will be in Fort Worth April 11-18 for an engineering mentorship program. Host families and day hosts are needed as they visit business sites with their professors. Contact beth@fwsistercities.org for hosting information.
  • Mayor Price has invited Toluca's Mayor Gonzalez Calderon to lead a delegation to Fort Worth April 10-13 during Main Street Arts Festival. Help welcome our Toluca friends and volunteer as day and home host. Contact irene@fwsistercities.org if interested.
  • Gracias to Doug Harman for his leadership as chair of the Toluca group these past two years.

 

  • Adults are invited to experience a true African adventure this summer on the "Mbabane Service Adventure" in June. Details and registration information are available on the website or by contacting irene@fwsistercities.org
  • Youth Ambassadors and university students will meet this month to prepare for the June exchange to Mbabane. The exchange of high school and university students will be led by Dr. James Aldridge, science teacher at Country Day School.
  • Thank you Dr. Staussa Ervin for your dedicated and continued leadership these past two years as chair of the committee. Staussa will take the reigns as the new Exchanges committee for the Board of Directors.

 

 

  • Fort Worth ISD teacher Jay Kurima will lead a delegation of students to China this year. This exchange will also include the Culinary School of Fort Worth.
  • Educators are invited to join the youth exchange and learn about Chinese education programs. Details are available on the website or by contacting irene@fwsistercities.org

 

 Fort Worth Youth International

  • Youth officers and board members are cooking up holiday recipes for their planned bake sale to raise funds for youth programs during the Dec. 8 pre-travel orientation.
  • Congratulations to all who applied as Youth Ambassadors. 77 outstanding Youth Ambassadors have been selected for 2014 spring and summer exchanges. 
  • More than 185 youth and parent volunteers will brave the cold during Photos with Santa at Sundance Square Plaza to raise funds for youth program.   Thank you to all who volunteer and to Sundance Square for their 13 th year of support.  
  
  • Congratulations to NET members who were selected as Associate Delegation Leaders on the youth ambassador exchanges: Reggio Emilia, Italy: Karla Lopez; Budapest, Hungary: Cindy Vasquez, Travis Waggoner, Gladys Guevara; Nagaoka, Japan: Daisy Castro; Mbabane, Swaziland: Stephanie Atkinson, Michelle Chuah; Guiyang, China: Amy Snider and Nayelly Dominguez.
  • Thank you to NET members who volunteered at the Mayor's International Dinner last month. Many NET members also danced and were in leadership positions for the event.
  • The NET is also volunteering at Photos with Santa in December. Join your friends and help raise funds to support youth programs. The photo booth is open every weekend from Nov. 23 - Dec. 23. Contact beth@fwsistercities.org to sign up for shift. Friends and family are welcome to volunteer and do not need to be members to help.
