UPDATES 

 

 

  • Monthly cultural orientations are set for the 15 high school Youth Ambassadors to prepare them for an enriched spring exchange. Ms. Maria Cruz, Spanish teacher at Leonard MS will be the Delegation Leader along with alum Jeremias Hernandez, UTA student and Cindy Vasquez, youth professional at Alcon and members of the Emerging Leaders Network .
  • Heather Kurima, Director of The Culinary School of FW is recruiting her students for exchange in March and preparing for the reciprocal exchange later this year. 

  

  • The Trier group congratulates the youth ambassadors and Associate Delegation Leaders selected to travel there in June.
  • We are expecting students from Trier to come to Fort Worth in March for an ambassador school program with Arlington Heights High School. The Trier group is making preparations to meet them
  • Trier committee volunteers will do a special "Christmas in Germany" presentation for the students of Chapel Hill Academy in Fort Worth. It is a special "Christmas Around the World" program.
  • The Trier committee thanks our chair, Michael Bennett, for his fantastic two years of service as the Trier chair.

  • Our Young Professional group is working on their exchange experience presentations to give to the community.
  • The Nagaoka group is making plans for the Oshogatsu Japanese New Year celebration on January 24.
  • Nagaoka is making a generous donation for fireworks and is sending an official delegation of approximately 50 people to Fort Worth for the fourth of July. The Nagaoka group will day and home host the delegation. We are partnering with the Trinity River Vision for this program.

  • Fort Worth Sister Cities is inviting adults and educators, as well as adult culinary students,  to travel to Bandung and Bali this June 11-25. Stay tuned for details.
  • Join the Bandung group at the Fort Worth Sister Cities Holiday Party and Annual Meeting on Dec. 6th.

  

  • The Budapest committee is planning some local cultural events for the year so stay tuned for dates and details.
  • The Budapest committee congratulates the 8th-12th graders selected as youth ambassadors to travel to Budapest this March.
  • Join the Budapest committee at the FWSCI Holiday Party and Annual Meeting on Dec. 6th.
  • We thank Nan Dearen for her two years of service as the Budapest Chair.

 

  • Thank you to Trinity Valley School as Ambassador School for Toluca for a 3 week exchange for 10 high school students and 2 teachers from Tec de Monterrey November 18-December 7th. Toluca committee to host main dish during farewell dinner on Dec.5th, hosts bring salads, sides .
  • All Saints Episcopal School has agreed to be the Ambassador School for Toluca high school students coming in March 18-29th, 2013 as part of their study abroad requirement.
  • Twenty four university engineering students from Tech de Monterrey Campus Toluca are coming March 23-30th and we need host families and day hosts as they visit business sites with their professors. Contact Beth for hosting information.

  

  • The 2013 Youth Ambassadors and university students will meet this month to prepare for the June exchange to Mbabane. The 13 member delegation will include high school students and university students as Associate Delegation Leaders led by Dr. Staussa Ervin.
  • Adults are invited to sign up and experience a true African adventure this summer with purpose and join us for the "Mbabane Service Adventure" June, 2013. The exchange will include painting murals at child care point centers, traditional tours and a safari, including 2 days in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Space is limited, information and registration on our website, Contact Beth for details. Deadline is Feb. 1st.
  • The newly opened Health Care Center is serving hundreds of children and local community members, Mae Ferguson will be going for a follow-up evaluation and explore future possible programs.

  

  • 15 students, educators and a quartet from the FW Youth Orchestra will travel to China  July 15-29 and perform while in Guiyang.   Extended tours include Beijing and Xian.
  • The inaugural teacher exchange will include meetings with Guiyang teachers to develop ongoing partnerships. Registration for teachers is limited.  Please contact Irene for details.
  • Mark your calendars now for March 1st for a joint performance by a Cultural Dance group from Guiyang, China and the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra conducted by Dr. German Gutierrez. Details are being planned. 

Fort Worth Youth International 

  • Youth Officers and board members are cooking up holiday recipes for their planned bake sale to help raise scholarships during the Dec.2 pre-travel orientation.
  • Congratulations to all youth who applied as Youth Ambassadors, 74 outstanding Youth Ambassadors have been invited for 2013 spring and summer exchanges.
  • More than 125 youth and parent volunteers the cold during the Sundance Santa to raise funds for our scholarship. Thanks to our volunteers and Sundance Square Management for their 11th year of support of our youth programs.  

 Emerging Leader Network (The Net) 

 

 

  • Associate Delegation Leaders were interviewed and selected last month. We are proud to announce the following NET members were chosen for 2013: Kyle Arnold - Guiyang, China; Amy Snider, Daniel McCown, Stephanie Atkinson - Mbabane, Swaziland; Mallory Moore, Nayelly Dominguez - Trier, Germany; Cindy Vasquez, Jeremias Hernandez - Reggio Emilia, Italy; Elizabeth Romero - Budapest, Hungary; Andrew Lockhart, Julia Hoffman - Nagaoka, Japan.
  • Start planning ahead for your spring and summer internships and contact Beth if you are interested.
  • The NET members are working the last weekend of Sundance Santa - Dec. 21-23. The funds raised during the weekend all go towards the Yamagata Emerging Leader Scholarship.
  • THANK YOU to all fall semester interns: Michael Dabbs and Kyle Arnold, TCU; Christine He; Mallory Moore, Tarrant County College; Katrina Elmasri, University of North Texas.
  • THANK YOU to Renee Snoke for serving as the chair of the Emerging Leaders Network on its maiden voyage! You steered us in the right direction and we are very appreciative.
