The Boyne Chamber's 8th Annual Business Expo and Taste of Boyne is almost here! The Expo is presented by major sponsor Pat O'Brien and Associates from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at a new location, the Civic Center at Boyne Mountain Resort. This expo is always one of Northern Michigan's largest business networking events, as 1,300 people come to see more than 80 local exhibitors. Admission is $5, which includes a visit to the booths of 12 Taste of Boyne eateries. Many of the exhibitors will have drawings and giveaways at their booths. The event also includes a cash bar, upbeat music from Roger Coates' Experience DJ Service, a free parking shuttle courtesy of Charlevoix County Transit, and demonstrations from the award-winning Boyne City High School Blaze Robotics Team. From the Petoskey News-Review: Many travelers to the Northern Upper Peninsula this time of year are vacationing and seeing the sights, but for the Boyne City football team, a trip to Copper Country is all about business. The Ramblers are making the 12-hour round trip to Calumet on the northern tip of the Upper Peninsula to take on the host Copper Kings in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday, looking to advance to its fourth straight district final with a victory. Boyne City has its work cut out for it, as it takes on an 8-1 Calumet team riding a seven-game win streak and with fresh memories of a painful 20-8 loss to the Ramblers in the district final last season. Costume parade, haunted house return to downtown Oct. 31
Area residents are invited to start Halloween night with downtown Boyne City's annual costume parade. Everyone is welcome to join the fun - young, old or 4-legged. Bring a chair if you prefer to watch all the great costumes. Line-up begins in front of CindiFranco's, 309 S. Lake St. at 4:30 p.m., and the parade begins at 4:45. It will wind around downtown, ending at the entrance to the Fire Department's Haunted House at the Library Red Barn. The Library Community Room will be open for trick-or-treating until 8 p.m. Just one block down, the First Presbyterian Church will feature their famous Trunk or Treat. The city's official trick or treating hours are 5 to 8 p.m. More Halloween fun events.

School board candidates forum
Four candidates competing for two positions on the Boyne City School Board participated in a 90-minute candidates forum Thursday night at the Boyne District Library. From left, the candidates are Kristine Brehm, Robert South, Patricia Hills, and Alison Fuller Mellon. The forum was organized by the school district and the Boyne Area Chamber, with Jim Baumann from the chamber serving as moderator. The forum was filmed and will be available on the school district website sometime next week.

Sports Medicine ribbon cutting and celebration
Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center is hosted a large crowed for their ribbon cutting and grand opening open house Thursday at their new facility at 210 S. Lake St. The celebration included hors d'oeuvres, giveaways, facility tours and free consultations. Started in 1987 by Chuck Smith, Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center is an outpatient facility that provides physical and occupational therapy, aquatic therapy, and specializes in athletic injury rehabilitation. Veterans Day features ceremony, free breakfast and free lunch
The Boyne City American Legion will hold a Veterans Day ceremony in the Legion building, 302 S. Lake St., at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.
FREE BREAKFAST - Veterans and their families are invited to a free breakfast at the North Central Michigan College cafeteria on Veterans Day from 8 to 10 a.m. The college Student Veterans Association and Chase Bank are sponsoring the event to show appreciation to our local veterans and their families.
FREE RIDE, FREE LUNCH - The Charlevoix County Transit System and the Commission on Aging are again working together to provide free rides on Veterans Day for senior veterans to any of the three mainland Senior Centers to receive a free lunch. They should bring their veteran ID card, or a means of identifying themselves as a veteran. If you know any senior veteran in the area, please let them know that Charlevoix County would like to provide them with this small token for all that they have given for the freedom of all Charlevoix County residents.
VETERANS SOCIAL - The community of Boyne City hosts a free social gathering for all veterans from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 25 and the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Boyne Area Senior Center. Coffee and doughnuts will be donated by supportive area businesses. The senior center also offers free lunches to all veterans on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

 The 9th annual Boyne City "Earlier Than The Bird" holiday shopping event is planned for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Kick off the season with friends and family, coffee and holiday shopping specials - all while in the comfort of your pajamas. By holding the event the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Boyne City merchants are inviting customers to get an "early bird" preview of all the great holiday shopping available. Merchants will be offering special deals along with refreshments. In addition, those shoppers wearing their pajamas will receive a special gift of the Earlier Than The Bird coffee mug pictured above, while supplies last. (Sorry, sweats and workout clothes are not eligible as pajamas). The event is sponsored by the Boyne City Main Street Program and the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce. Boyne City Rotary donates to Dress For Chill Program
Jim Howell, President of the Boyne City Rotary Club, presents a $300 check to Suzanne Hubner, a Dress For Chill member, to help fund clothing purchases. Dress For Chill is a program run by The Eta Nu Charities Women's Organization every October to help clothe Preschool and Elementary students in need with new coats, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves. So far this year, more than 100 Boyne City elementary students and 36 Head Start Preschoolers were dressed with a complete outfit. Clothing is purchased through the funds received from local community donations. "We are so blessed to live in such a giving community," said Hubner. "We could not accomplish our goals without the help of so many."

"Zombie Mountain Attack" 5k fun run Oct. 30 at Avalanche
 The Boyne City High School Blaze Robotics Team is sponsoring the Zombie Mountain Attack, a 5K Fun Run at Avalanche Mountain at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. Zombies in costume will be scattered along the 5K course to hinder and scare the dickens out of the runners. Costumes are optional, families are welcome; you are invited to be a zombie or a runner. Boyne Co-op announces 6th annual Buck Pole Contest
Boyne Co-op True Value will be holding its 6th annual Buck Pole Contest Nov. 15 and 16. Register by 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the Co-op, 113 S. Park St., Boyne City. The registration fee is $20, and there will be prizes for the top two scores for men, women and youth plus the top overall score. During the program, participants will have an opportunity to discuss times they've faced misfortune in their own lives and how they managed it. Lifetree Café is located 401 S Park St., Boyne City.
